Gary...What???? So I added a few more words... Cry me a river... build a bridge and get over it....Nuff said on that hex...
For those that have never ventured into this are way back behind the intake air horn. the intake valley drain pan has a "special nut".. This nut is the hold down fastener and it works as the drain. To simplify install and removal the engineers designed a square drive hole in it. That is where the 3/8 drive extension fits for simple removal or install. If the unknowing eyes were to see this for the first time you may think why is this hole going into my cam lifter valley and eventually into my oil pan.. But as I posted. This is a channel designed into the block casting allowing any fluids to only flow out and down over the starter.. That right there is another engineering bad or worst idea ever.

Al... Here is the Ford part number and what Ford calls this "thing" we are having fun with...
E3TZ-9A450-A Plug.
I know this for sure.. Loose this and you will have a hell of a time replacing it. Any machinist of modest talent could make one on a lathe easily if they had one to copy. Hard part will be broaching the square in it but even that could be pieces of metal welded so you had a 3/8 square. then machine the rest.
