Hey guys I noticed the other day at work that my glow plug light wasn't working and the truck wouldn't start. I took the oppotunity to go ahead and order new plugs and controller. I got everything swapped out this afternoon but the light is still off when i try to warm the plugs and the truck still isn't starting. Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting?

Check the main engine wire harness plug. It usually melts from all the power the controller pulls thru it. Replace the two yellow wires with a single 6 gauge speaker wire. End of power issues to the controller and an end of possible wire fires too at the plug.. Mine smoked one day. I got it just in time..

Welcome to OB!;Sweet
Knowing what year truck you have will help us give you the information you need as there are 2 different style controllers offered in the IDI platform.
Adding the truck info into your sig help us immensly.

Thanks for the quick responses! I added my details to my sig; truck is a 85 btw. I'll start going through the items y'all listed this weekend and hopefully figure this thing out.

Ok I took a couple pictures, the first is the passenger side fender. Stumiister I found the glow plug relay (pic) and everything is tight and looks in decent condition, that is what you were talking about right?. Icanfixall, when you say the main engine harness are you talking about the hookup to the glow plug harness that in the upper right hand of the pic? The second pic shows a lonely connector that I have no clue of what it goes to and thought you guys might know. I'm not the most mechanically gifted guy but I'm learning and really appreciate the help so far.

Yes. Thats the main engine wire harness plug. It looks good too. As for that extra wire that goes noplace. Thats the feed to the dash tach that you don't have. The sender fits in the right plug on the top gear cover. If you don't have a dash tach there is no reason to install the tach sender and plug it in. Nice pics too...

Truck is up and running again! I bought a new relay today; tossed it on and she fired right up. You guys rock! Thanks for helping me through my issue. I can now say that I am pretty familiar with the glow plug system. On another good note, I treated her to some new rubber (Toyo Open Country A/T 245/75 ) and new KYB Gas Adjust shocks. Rides sooooo much better now.
