Also anyone have experience with using #4 cylinder vs #1 for pickup pulse timing?

#4 was really off (negative 5* maybe more) , #1 seems close to 8* now.

Vans and Internationals are designed to be timed on #4. That said, you should be able to use #1 just fine. It should be the same length as the other lines without the timing adapter. 6.9s don't have the timing adapter, so there shouldn't be any issues. #4 and #1 should give you the same reading while timing. I have no idea why yours would be 13* or more off between the two.

That’s because I just looked at a cylinder diagram and I’ve been using #2….. Thinking it was #4! This explains a lot! Dough!

We all make mistakes. That would sure explain the differences in timing. I'd say that you should be pretty close on timing now.
