looking to buy this truck. i have owned an 86 6.9l prior to this.

the wait to start light came on and somethin was clickin like mad under the hood.

cranked it and it revved the **** out of itself for 2 seconds then died.

cranked it again and it revved again and idled fine.

my foot wasn't on the gas pedal either time

had a distinct knocking sound and had fuel at one of the injectors where the line connects, so might be injector knock?

runs and drives fine

btw a lady owns it. "needs a new brake system"? just needs wheel cylinder lol

i don't know what the market is like up in your area, but down here that price will get you a truck without problems. at the $1000 mark down here, that would be worth buying.

If you heard a clicking like mad when the glow plug controller was working then its probaly going to need a set of glow plugs. When some are burned out the controller clicks madly like you posted. The reving up and the fuel leak tells me the return lines and caps are also bad. Hopefully thats all thats needed there. When fuel leaks out from the closed system you get air in the fuel lines. That will run up the rpm as it runs out of fuel and dies. Then some cranking will get the system flooded with fuel again. The knock sound could very well be an injector but thats just a guess. How many miles are on the fuel system is a question that needs to be asked too. The injection pump usually wears out along with the injectors around 100,00 to 125,000 miles. So run longer and some run less miles.

Since the return lines are leaking already, I would think about verifying the injector knock, just loosen the lines until you find which one is knocking.

It helps to negotiate on price when you show the owner that "yes, this injector is bad, and all these lines leak".

Good luck.

well i check 7/8 injectors. on the last one the line started to twist and i didn't want to wreck it and end up having to fix a truck that is not mine.
so i'm 87% sure its NOT an injector knock.
she said she's drivin it 2 years with that same sound. can't really notice it with hood closed, but its there. i dunno.

Run away ...

No offense, but if you don't know what is going on,
and if you can't have a mechanic you trust check it
before you buy it or bring someone with more experience
than you have .....

You are buying a repair bill - you just don't know how much it is

It doesn't matter if a lady owned it, that has nothing to do
with the fact that the truck has problems and you don't know what
they are ....

Unless someone is standing there with you, it is not reasonably
possible to diagnose what may or may not be wrong with
the whole truck on a forum ....

There are other high dollar repairs that may be lurking
in areas other than under the hood ....
