I think it allows the engine to rev higher, 4500 I think. Dont know what the stock pump is governed at- never beat on my truck. But for those who like to give the IDI a workout use this spring.

What it does is allow more rpm from the pump. The stock spring revs to around 35oo rpm. Hp gains have never been proven on a dyno.

Changing the gov. spring is a touchy job. Screw it up and you'll have a runaway engine possibly. IDI's are governed at 3500 to 3800, with a Chevy spring it will go to 4500 according to what I've read on here.
Under the S4821 is the governor spring, it's kinda delicate, very small wire. Hooks on both ends.

I've been wondering how reliable this is, seems like a good way to make a bomb.:sly:sly

Yeah it is. But let them go ahead and do it. Then we can have more threads like,

How the hell do I rebuild this engine with a rod thru the side.:rotflmao

How come the rod bent.:rotflmao

Why did my head gasket blow.:rotflmao :puke:

At 4500 RPM I heard a loud noise, what could it be? :puke: :rotflmao

These damn IDI's are a POS. :D

Just noticed the user name, RtpLandscaping.
Truck could be used for a lawn ornament.
Ain't flaming, just thought it's funny.

FWIW, leave the spring alone. The things that make a difference are adjusting the timing curves and fueling curves and using bigger plungers. There are also rumors that there can be other adjustments made. These are best done by Mel's Mooe Pump guy or Ken @ DPS unless you have a local guy who you trust to be completely honest with you who knows how to make it happen. You could in theory do these things yourself but at the high risk of ruining a pump or engine or not getting it calibrated right and it would run terrible. I'd love to learn how to build these, but I don't know enough and the literature is a challenge and right now, not sure if I could find a willing teacher. After all that's his/her livelihood!

Here is what Racer30 said about valve float in another thread.

well I want to know about the valve springs too... I have been workin on a new cam profile and need a little more valve spring pressure to keep the valves from floating. The computer dyno uses the wieght of the valve components to calculate the chance of valve float. The new profile starts to float stock valve springs at 3400. I need to find a spring that can fit without machine work. looks like I need to try the lunati specs on the dyno and see if that will do it. nice find, saves me some time lookin for springs.
