So the motor is out, the doner motor has received all of the necessary parts off the old motor. That took a lot longer than I thought it would take, well I guess everything did.

Here are some pics, notice the Chrome Chevy part. I found it on the old motor under a bunch of oil. We swapped the whole fuel system, glow plug system and all of the sensors. Cleaned and painted all of the brackets. Got a lot of finger prints on the new paint, should have painted the whole thing black,.cookoo

Darrin- Who's supplying your fuel system? Are you getting some DPS parts? I STILL have had ZERO luck contacting Ken at DPS regarding my failed DPS injectors. Just wondering if he's still around...

The truck looks just GREAT. It's always nice to see others keeping the old trucks in good shape and running down the road.

Good luck on the rest of the swap!

It looks like I need to rebuild the turbo. there is a lot of play in the shaft. It is in the center bearing in the 2nd pic, prevous post.

it has not hit the housing so the impeller and housing are fine. I will call a couple of places here locally to see if I can get any rebuild parts or if I have to go straight to Banks.

Either way Bob and I are gonna try to rebuild it ourselves. He allready has it apart (obvously)

I will also need a new heat shield, gaskets for the DP, and possibly a new DP itself.

This is one of those, "While I am at" it things, It may as well get done now instead of 5 months from now and have to tear it all apart again, or loose the turbo and take out the motor..

Soon to ad to the sig, Rebuilt Motor, Rebuilt Turbo, Rebuilt Pump, Rebult Injectors,...is there anything else left...?

Nope I don't deal with Ken anymore, He has been a very big dissapointment for me. I have found another source and if it works out I will let you know about it. Should be a couple of weeks yet before I know more, but will keep you posted.

Thanks for the comments on the truck! I am real happy with the way it turned out and get a lot of compliments on it. Now I gotta get the motor in and get out and enoy it!

So here is Ron doing me a favor painting the motor mounts.

(this is supposed to be humorus people)

Didn't he do a nice job!,.. Great color choice I thought,....

PS Notice the Big Ed Oil drip on the back of Ron's head! He aint afraid to get dirty.
I think they looked mighty purdy.LOL

Yeah that oil drip kept me out of the house for awhile last night after I got home. :backoff
So I worked on Mater till 10:30 last night. Gots my second wind.cookoo

I think I've come to a conclusion after working on Big Ed, these motors don't burn oil, they have a porous block and oil just oozes out of em. cookoo
I know this cause I absorbed so much oil yesterday, I couldn't pass up a fresh filter for breakfast.LOL
Heck even the wiring had oil and coolant running out of the casings. Ok, so it was the split loom to the starter and is where the oil drip came from.-cuss

Man Darrin no wonder ya didn't work much with all them pictures ya took.;Poke LOL

Ahh just kidding. I think we all were running out of steam bout by 5 last night.

I think it takes more out of ya trying to keep things from getting scurffed up that when yer just going at it ripping stuff out. It pays off in the end tho and the work shows.;Sweet

Gitrdone!

Funny you should say that. I did mention to Darrin that I could have Archie drop off a set of rails for him to move it around if need be.LOL

Nice shop! Makes one wonder if the sales part of your operation is simply the "excuse" for having such a nice shop.
I think you should bring it to the next IDI weekend so we can also experience it...

Thanks Mike! Bob and I are very blessed! it is even Air Conditioned! ;Sweet
It has been called my "Hobby Lot" before,..:dunno :D

Update,..Tony cleaned the engine compartment today, not an easy feat! so Thanks to HIM, that was a crappy job.

I ordered a new heat shield from Banks today. Droped the unassembled turbo off to Diesel Injection Service to see if they can get the parts so we can get it rebuilt.

Any suggestons for wrapping or head shield for the Downipe? the tin foil that was on there is pretty old and crappy. Looks like I am going to reuse the DP. It is in pretty good shape, just not great. Banks wants about $260.00 for a new one.

That's about it for now!

$260??? You've got to be kidding?! Last week they told me $110, but that was for the one that fits their turbos and upgrades teh ATS factory turbo. Don't know if you can use an ATS downpipe or not, but they have them availabe at jhdiesel for $80+ shipping.

It is a 2 piece design the top piece is $160.00 and the bottom piece is $100.00. I only need about 1' of the bottom piece. I was willing to pay the $160 and as I was ordering it I asked him if it was both pieces, but NO. Oh well.

Ron suggested to get it jet coated so I think I will look into that.

The ATS wont work on the older style Banks systems

Any suggestions about wraping it for heat?

Doesn't travis advocate against wrapping the pipes as it'll screw em?

Can't you have the insides coated with ceramic. I've heard of van guys doing that and then you can basically touch the pipes when they're running and they're hardly hot.
