Sounds simple right?.. I used the 6.9 from the 86 in my signature as a transplant in a 92 superduty dump truck, the 86 sat since 09 as far as i can recall but fired up immediately when given fresh batteries. The Hypermax turbo spins freely for a bushing turbo, and exhaust/turbo leaks don't seem to be apparent. it seems to do well with the low gears and the ZF5 but the smoke, EGTs and low boost seem off to me, before in the 86 this motor would hit 13 PSI and 1250 EGT and be relatively low smoke but now its more like 1300 EGT and 6 PSI with lots of smoke..PS its the same gauges that came out of the 86... it seems to run very well and starts cold easily ... I'm at odds??

I have had recent and similar symptoms, I popped my boost tube off on the highway. The truck immediately lost power(of course) lost most of the boost reading on the gauge, EGT shot up. not nearly as high as you were showing though, and started rolling a lot of black smoke until I got The boost tube hooked back up again. I would start looking for leaks from the turbo to the intake, if it isn't that maybe you are leaking going exhaust to the turbine housing and not making the turbo spool up

Lots of black smoke+high egts is not enough air. Either intake restriction, boost leak, or exhaust leak between turbo and heads. Between turbo and muffler doesn't matter at all in regards to leaks.
