Freeway Driving

I usually slow down when driving my truck on the interstate. It is kind of nice to relax a bit and lose that 80MPH stress on the nerves. I also enjoy sticking to the "blue highways" when I have the time to do so.

Geez, ya'll are some speed-demons, I chug along at 57 mph all the time - whoever has a problem with that feel free to take the hammer lane, I value my 20mpg a whole lot more than I value my time That said, I was pulling a car hauler in KS once and saw a tornado touch down a few miles to the left, needless to say I was soon bouncing off the governer (3800 rpms in my case) and speedometer needle was pointing somewhere around the middle of the gear select indicator And I still got passed like I was stopped by a lady (with two little kids) in a crew-cab dually Dodge diesel, smokin like a freight train and flying like an airplane, I wanna know what engine speed she was turning at!!!

mine has a top speed of about 105 since i have a 3800 rpm revlimit and 33 inch tires and t-19 with 3.55 gears thats plenty fast enough for me

The math says I can do 132MPH, but I don't think the tires would handle that. The fastest I've ever gone is what the speedometer allows... 85. In states where there is a 75 MPH speed limit, it's not hard to hit that at all. As for high reving engines, it's true it won't hurt them, but it WILL wear them out. If you were going to drive like that all the time, I would take definite steps to re-gear for longer life, and better fuel economy.

My brown truck used to run the governor all the time when the PO had it. They installed the 4.10 rear and had the T19 in it, ran it all summer long back and forth to a coop on the governor pulling 20,000lb+ loads of whatever it may be they needed hauled. It ran just fine until I got it. lol

How are you driving 75-80 in Houston? It is always stop and go traffic when I am down there.

70-85 in kali.
got clocked in TX at 104. got a very stern warning.
If I drove the speed limit I would go nuts. Paying a higher price for fuel is cheaper than going to a shrink.

That answers a whole lotta questions for me right there.


I think I've come close to the 3 digit speeds before but on the back roads.

Lately, I've been catching myself cruisin round the 65-70 mph or 2000-2500 rpm range.

Anything over that, I can watch the fuel guage drop and since I'm back burning diesel, I'll watch the cost at fillups more than trying to keep up with the pack on the highway.

Shoot my fords are actually my slowest vehicles if you ignore my Bronco. Everything else I own has seen 120 or better often. The bronco hit 127 according to my GPS one night coming home from a friends. I also have a 3000gt that has been on the other side of 200 quite often before the engine went on the last drag run I did in it. I also have access to motorcycles that easily get in the 200 range.

i think i was around 110-115 the other night. racing my girlfriend in her moms spectra. yea she wasn't getting too far from me either! haha

cant be exact but 2.5 miles at full throttle should get me going pretty quick!

i think i was in the 2600-2800 rpms range in overdrive converter locked... fastest i've had my truck going since i got it and it was stock.

will i go that fast on freeways? def not. i've gotten enough of those real painful indiana speeding tickets. really dont need another on my record.

I dont think my rig has seen over 88 mph. I did that going down a hill in SD. Otherwise it eats fuel above 65 mph. I have been running it hard the last fuel tank and got less than 400 miles between both tanks!!!

Does anyone think 13 mpg is really lame for the rig in my sig? The tires are a little big and knobby but still!!!???
