Howdy everybody, hope your trucks running good. I was under mine the other day changing the tranny fluid on the c6 and noticed wear on my flywheel the other day. I replaced the starter 6 or 7k ago and it was a fancy one, spun real fast. Any ideas what the wear is? Ive heard some starters got 8 tooths instead of ten? Or was it the other way around?

Yup, normal wear and tear. If you have a particularly bad spot, file the edges down so you have a slight chamfer/taper leading into the tooth, no burrs. Try to make it look similar to the 'good' side by cleaning it up a little.

Normally the gears have a bevel cut on them for the starter gear easier engaging. Your flywheel appears to be in good shape too. I suspect you have a standard trans. BTW the gear is replaceable.
