F350 80-86 Fuel Selector Valve Connector replacement

From what I have read, it seems it is nearly impossible to find a replacement connector for the bullnose 6 port FSV but thought I would ask in case a solution exists..

Does anyone know where I can find this connector? Is there anywhere else in Ford's vehicles from that time that used this connector? This is from my 86 diesel.

If I were to opt to replace the FSV, is changing to the later style FSV a common choice?

Any direction is appreciated. Tanks are out so wanting to make it so I don't have to revisit this for a while.

Oh crud. I bought a selector valve a while back, but it's been sitting on the shelf. Never looked inside. I better check the connector. I have 86 F350. Hopefully it's got the early connector on the valve. Otherwise I need to scavenge a newer connector.

You have a original Ford fuel selector valve? That is amazing. I figured they were all bad by now. If you go to the store to get a new one, they will give you a new connector. Why? Because the Ford connector will not fit. The fuel lines are different also.

The valve is made by Pollack. Ford went to Pollack and told them they want them to make a custom valve for Ford, different fuel connections, different wiring plug. They did, and if you want a custom Ford by Pollack valve, you can go to the Ford dealer and buy one. Last time I heard, they were around $300.

Or you can go to Autozone or most local parts stores, and get a new Pollack valve, but it is the generic one that Pollack made for everyone else. You will have to do some re-wiring, and you might have to change the mounting and mess with the fuel lines to make it all work. But functionally it's the exact same valve. I just looked, it's $97 at Autozone.

Is the wiring "one for one", just a different shaped plug? If you can identify the colors, might be worth cutting a harness off a donor/junkyard truck and soldering/heat shrinking it on to the bullnose harness. I know it's sacrilege to "de-Bullnose" your truck with OBS part but if the newer parts are all that's going to be available, desperate times call for desperate actions.

I ran into the same issue on my OBS. Those old 6-port connectors are basically impossible to find.

What I ended up doing (and what might work for you) was switching to the Pollak-style 6-port valve (like the SMP FV5K). They’re easy to get and I just got one that came with the connector pigtail. I just cut the old connector off and wired in the new one.

It’s still the same basic setup with 2 wires for the motor and 3 for the gauge switching. So once you identify power, ground, and the sender wires, it’s pretty straightforward if you go that route. Hope this helped and best of luck!

I ended up choosing to keep the old style connector as I found an OEM fuel selector valve (FSV) more affordably than the OEM later one with the different connector. My original was still working but since I am in here, don't want to do this again for a long time so keeping the original FSV as a spare. I used a zip tie around the body of the FSV to hold the connector in.

To save anyone grief, I recommend running your mounting bolts into the new FSV BEFORE installing to the from. if it gets very difficult, stop and chase with a tap. The nuts are stamped on the backside to distort the threads slightly to act as a locking nut to the bolt. Well, my new one was over stamped and contacted my bolt so hard I spun the nut in the housing. Was a pain to get off but eventually did and used a regular nut and loctite.
