Still gotta get the other side out. It feels sandy as well inside. This one had no needle bearings left in the left side and wobbled some. I took a video of the truck running through the gears with the shaft hanging in the carrier bearing and it moves without noise by hand but I cant tell if I hear it in the video whining or not. When I put it back together should the section where the two pieces of drive shaft slide together be greased? Cause its dry as a bone.

I wanna replace all this drive shaft stuff and see if the vibrations go away before I have a buddy help me do the clutch and flywheel swap. If the vibrations go away I can at least drive it a few months and do this clutch and flywheel during winter when I don't drive this truck anyways.

I have been having problems once in awhile with stubborn u-joints. I will get it all set up in the press, and have a lot of trouble with some of them, and after a lot of pressure they finally bust loose. Everything after that goes well, except sometimes I have trouble getting the retainer clips back in. Usually I force them in, sometimes they are so tight they will not sit flat against the end of the u-joint cup.

After having this problem off and on several times over the years, I think I have discovered what is causing it; When I have a stubborn rusted u-joint, and I put a lot of pressure on it in the press, if it happens to be the top side cup that is stuck, the press is actually bending the yoke arms together a little bit as I am cranking down on them in the press. The bottom cup moves, the top one doesn't, so it's bending them together slightly. This is what is making my clips difficult to get back in place.

It's almost like you need a small u-shaped support to slide inbetween the yoke arms to support them while you put pressure on it, much like the support jig they make for a-arms when you are pressing a-arm bushings in place. Have you guys ever experienced this problem?

If it was that hard to get the U joint out, maybe you should put a little bit of anti seize on your caps before installing them. I can believe that it was that hard because that's the rustiest driveshaft that I've ever seen. I guess it's called "The Rust Belt" for a reason!

So listen right at 50 seconds and right at 1 minute even.

I think I hear my carrier bearing making a noise at higher speeds there. Not sure if that is normal or not. I would love to just replace the thing, I already have the new bearing but I can't find anywhere near my area that has the right type of press to get the thing off. I would just cut it off, but then I wouldn't be able to press the new one back on anyways so that wouldn't do me much good..
