Alright so I got the crossover pipes in and welded but my situation ahs gotten more interesting. Due to the location of the transmission oil cooler lines I cannot get exhaust pipes on after the downpipe.

The issue is that the downpipe currently aims straight at the trans line. My question is what is the best way to reroute trans oil cooler lines? Can I cut them and put rubber hose on it instead of the metal lines? The exhaust guy thinks thats a bad idea but I just am not sure.

The line that is in the way is the top higher of the two lines on going to the oil cooler. Which one goes to the cooler and which is the return line?

E4OD tranny...

Thanks
Thad

I think the line that comes out of the back of the transmission is the "pressure" side and the return come back to the more forward of the two lines.

This is what I remember from replacing the lines in my C6 in my old truck before it got a T-19, so memory is a little foggy, and different trans might be different setup.

On another note, I wouldn't use rubber hose. The heat coming off of the transmission combined with the solvent properties of ATF might land you back in the garage in a short while. I say get some tubing benders and extra tubing if you need it, and make the appropriate adjustments.

The front one is the pressure, comes right out of the hot torque convertor, gets cooled then goes back in the rear as lube oil for the gear train.. Hose is not a good idea but it will work ,hydraulic return hose,or trans cooler hose, good for 300 psi, double clamps on all ends and it would be ok.

Gotcha. I just about started cutting and putting the rubber hose on.....thanks for stopping me.

I get the cart ahead of the horse sometimes and rightnow I am feeling the crunch to try and get this done and drive it a bunch before the BIG trip (3,000+ miles round trip) next Friday.....

The lines are just as Russ posted. The front line is the hot out from the converter to the cooler. Now at the back fitting in the E4OD trans you will find a fitting thats a check valve. This keeps the ATF in the torque converter when you shut down the motor. Without that valve the converter will drain and on restarts it will take some time to refill. Its not a bad thing but kinda a pain if you want to jump in and get going. Stock line diameter is 5/16th tubing and not 3/8 tubing. Be careful. I cut mine when it was original at work and then found out what size it was. Sure made a mess out of things till I found a fitting...

The only hydrualic lines that I can acquire locally is either 1/4 or 3/8. They have fittings on both sides.
My question is how to attach the line to the 5/16's tubing that I am going to have to cut and reroute with the hydraulic line? I understand that connecting it to the tranny side will be really easy with the fitting but it is hard for me to think of a GOOD way of connecting it to the tubing.....

Any thought and or suggestions.....you guys have been helpful on many of my other projects. It seems the obvious doesnt jump out at me a lot lately....

Thanks

cooler lines

Go to auto parts store even pep boys and ask for 5/16 power steering return line it is atf compatable and most often comes in box with 4 ft length more than required if you have a double flaring tool you can start a double flare and it will bubble out the line a little as to make a lip for better seal and hose will hold better do not use fuel line as it is not atf compatable and will swell and come apart from inside out over time. P.S. pep boys and autozone and other parts stores have a flaring tool you can borrow for free. hate to buy any parts from those kind of places but its cheaper than buying one if you don't have any other use for it.
