got the 2 tanks in today with a SD front tank.
took me forever and got filthy!
did some dash work, and got stuck with the placement with the harness.
i also need to go cut up the truck at the yard for the obs steering column mount and thru-firewall connectors.
hope to get the dash done tomorrow.
ill take some pics.

actually a good idea on the sd tank! nice work btw that was quite a bit of work. while that motor was out, did they do any work to the motor or was it a good running motor in the truck it came out of? i built and sold many many sand rail and race car frames that i made and those welds are unbelievable! who ever did that needs take some lessons from someone that knows and they need to throw that welder away cause something is really wrong there. it almost looks like he tried to weld through a pile of grime w/o even attempting to clean anything first! so i take it you have done many of these projects like this so i have a question........ if one was to put say a 1" or 2" body lift on would there be enough clearance for a 4" down pipe? i ask because i kept my old '92 f350 4x4 5speed long box crew cab it just turned 245k but still fires right up and runs good.

ive done enough yelling about those welds..lol
some people amaze me, but its not the equipment, its the operator.
i would bet money that they used a 110 buzz box with c02/argon, with the polarity for fluxcore.
dummys!!!

i have not done a PSD in a OBS, this is actually only my 3rd PSD project, the first was heads on my 01 SD
the 2nd was a 97 7.3 in my 63 ranchero that i have not yet wired.
a buddy had this at another shop and it wasnt getting worked on, so he employed me to finish it.
i told him i didnt know how long it would take, but if i was to do it, i woould want to do everything plug and play,
ill keep chipping at it, and eventually get it done.

nothing was done to the engine. he said it was a good runner, but we shall see.
im getting paid hourly, so it is what it is!

gotta wait till monday to finish the dash swap. i need to steal some parts off the junktruck.

today im going to finish the fuel lines, run the tanks together,
maybe do some engine compartment wiring.

The obs steering column mount is actually a huge bolt in hunk of aluminum. It also mounts the emergency brake pedal.

You can see it in some of the pictures in my dash rebuild thread.

Keep the good work coming!

yep. the part im talking about is the portion of the cab that the aluminum housing bolts to.
theres a strip on the door pillar, and a bracket on the firewall. going to cut both of those out so i can weld them into the brick body.
then the bracket will bolt on like stock..
everything will plug and play once i find the correct connectors.

im also going to cut the brick nose lower firewall out and install the OBS panel.
not gonna be fun.

well i have all of the parts to get the column support on, now finding time to get paid,
and to tear the inner fender apart to weld in the through the firewall connector holes in.

this is the part i hate most.
dont want to pull the truck out of the shop because it does not steer.

I NEED TO WORK ON MY DAMN TRUCK!!!

end of rant.

i think i would have took the bigger job of using the brick dash and re-working the harness... ive seen both style cabs stripped down and side by side.... thats not a fun nor easy task to swap between the two. thats why i ended up parting out my ext cab project. just too much work to use an OBS cab with all bricknose parts...and apparently vice versa
