Going up the hill will load the block. And that will actually be more efficient for the motor (benefit of diesel engine). Rather get the block warm and drive with light load and step on the throttle. If it blows alot of white smoke at fast rpm, it may be a small issue. But even though compression is low, it is still present, so maybe a little wear, but doesn't sound broke. A good simple green bath and keeping a lookout for other leaks. What oil are you using?
