I have always known it to be as posted above.
It was posted earlier that the IDI could be had till 97... No way. 96 was another emissions year. What was done to the 96 PSD to make it comply with standards? I would just like to know to know. FYI non Cali Goats got cats.

I'm hearing lots of differant information about the psd and idi motor options.... All my information states this.... In 1993 you could order an idi motor either turbo or none turbo. The turbo was offered in the last half of the 93 year. You could also order an 94 psd motor in the end of the 93 year but it still would have been a 94 truck. Then the 94 year only offered the psd... No idi or turbo idi.... The turbo idi motor was only offered for a 6 month time frame. I have never seen or heard of a 94, 95, 96,or 97 idi truck turbo or not... ...
I have a Turbo 1994 IDI F250 Super Cab 4X4, so yes they are still plenty of them around

Well like I said I haven't seen it in writing but a buddy of mine custom ordered a 97 PSD and he said the IDI option was still on the options sheet when he ordered it. They could have just not changed their sheet though. Who knows.

I've had two '94 IDI's. It's my understanding that the NA, the turbo and the PS were all available that year. The automatic only came on the IDI's, and the 5 speed came on the PS. My first 94 came with all the paper work and a PS manual.

From what I've read, one of the main reasons for the switch to the PSD from the Turbo IDI was emmisions related. Same as the switch from the 6.9 to the 7.3... same as the switch from the 7.3 PSD to the 6.0 PSD. I believe practically every engine change Ford has done was to apease the EPA. I highly doubt the magnates at EPA would have allowed someone in 97 the option of ordering an engine that does not meet current regulations.

Interesting. Since someone HAS a 95' IDI, then I guess we can assume they do exist. 3%. That's a pretty low number. Obviously the chance of their being a 96' or 97' if such an option existed, would be less than 1%. That brings the number of such trucks out there into the "not a production product" catagory. I'm sure some Ford worker probably is driving a 97' IDI that he built in the fall of 96', having hand assembled it himself because he wanted "the last IDI in the stock room". LOL I don't think we can really acknowledge the existance of IDI's past 94' for practicle reasons, and anybody with a later one would be well advised to never mention that actual model year when they go for parts. Just tell them it is a 93' and your a lot better off. Same for an 87' 6.9. Tell them it is an 86' unless you need something that is belt driven or electrical, in which case tell them it is an 88'.

I agree Mel. I always tell them mine is a 93 turbo or I end up with PSD parts. Most parts people have no clue that there was a diesel before the PSD. LOL Same idiots call the old 6.2 and 6.5 Chevys duramax's.

I have one.

7.3 IDI Turbo from a 1995. They were in like 3% of the Ford F-series that year.

That's pretty interesting ;Sweet

I could see an IDI being available in 96 and 97 but they would have most likely been in the fleet trucks, vans or special service vehicles. For the record it would be really cool to see one.
