well i was doing some looking around on craigslist last night and i found a 1995 f350 4x4 7.3l regular cab. the trans is toast i do know that by the ad. i emailed the owner to see if it was a ps or idi. he emailed me back and said it was a idi and the engine had been rebuilt several months back. to my understanding 95 was the transition year for ford between the idi and the ps right, and to my understanding also in 95 all 7.3l came with a turbo correct me if im wrong. if the truck came with a turbo i think i can get this truck for next to nothing because the guy needs to have it hauled off as soon as posible and just wants to have someone make him a offer on it. whats yalls opinnion on the turbo in the 95 models?

I thought '94 was the transition year with 3 engine choices, IDI, Turbo IDI, or PS.....correct me if I'm wrong though.

I have that engine...

I have one.

7.3 IDI Turbo from a 1995. They were in like 3% of the Ford F-series that year. 1994 had that option too.

I think it has plenty of power. I have gotten a best MPG of 15. 14 might be average in my crew cab.

I actually have a rebuilt tranny for that truck in my garage I might be willing to sell. I don't know what shipping costs for that.

The major issue that I ran into with mine was the flywheel (flexplate).

They stopped making them about 9 months ago. There are zero in stock anywhere in the country. It uses an A4OD mounted to it and has a different amount of crank bolts and converter bolts.

NAPA has the listing for the part W-R-O-N-G.

I took my old flywheel to the machine shop with a ring gear from a regular 7.3L (already miked it) and they cut and welded it on for $35.

The flexplate IF Ford still had it would have been $535.

Mine's good as new, maybe better. SAVE your flexplate if your starter messes it up.

BTW, mine has about 325,000 or 350,000 on it, going strong.

This engine is REALLY hard to look up, even down to getting a belt for it. I had to deal with TEN different potential part listings for the serpentine. I found the correct size by trial and error which I can go check if you ever need to know.

Advance and Autozone just simply don't know that this engine even exists.

Lots of parts are interchangeable if you look hard enough.

BTW I also have a spare injector pump and fuel pump if needed.

Private Message if needed.

clarification

The ring gear was from a manual transmission flywheel and it had same measurements as for an automatic flexplate ring gear.

94 was the transition year. To my understanding 95 up the PSD was the standard diesel option but you could order an IDI all the way up to 97. I have never seen an idi newer than 95 though.

Wow, I never knew one could order a truck through '97 with an IDI.....Probably not too many people would prefer the IDI over the PSD though I would imagine.

I don't know that for fact as I have never seen it in writing but I have heard it from a couple different people. Being the PSD was being pushed I bet most didn't know it was an option.

I'm hearing lots of differant information about the psd and idi motor options.... All my information states this.... In 1993 you could order an idi motor either turbo or none turbo. The turbo was offered in the last half of the 93 year. You could also order an 94 psd motor in the end of the 93 year but it still would have been a 94 truck. Then the 94 year only offered the psd... No idi or turbo idi.... The turbo idi motor was only offered for a 6 month time frame. I have never seen or heard of a 94, 95, 96,or 97 idi truck turbo or not... You guys that have this information need to show where it came from.... Now I understand a 93 1/3 idi turbo truck could have been sold is the later years because it was on some lot or hidden in some Ford truck lot somewhere... I bought a dirt bike like that once.. About 1200 YZ250 Yamahas were "found" in a storage building and I bought one of those. It was a 77 or 78 cycle bought in 1983...
