It has been a bit since I installed this disc brake kit. I finally was able to take the truck for a true drive and I have some things to pass on for anyone thinking about doing this. I am learning lessons. Most importantly with it being originally disc/drum set up, the brake line to the rear drums has a "residual pressure valve". If you dont know, that is the large stainless nut shaped adapter attached to the master cylinder that the rear brake line connects to.
When I took it out on the first real drive a lot was happening- the brake finally had a firm pedal for the first time since I have owned the truck I discovered an oil leak going strait on to the exhaust from the valve making a smoke show. The boot attached to the turbo blew off accelerating to enter the highway. It also felt bogged down for lack of a better description. I thought probably because I lost the boost to the motor. When I pulled back in to the drive it was smoking. Thought it was just the leak but no. The firm pedal and some of the smoke was due to that residual pressure valve. It helps the drum set up to fight their strong return springs but in my case it just kept the disc brakes heavily applied which explained the bogged down feeling. I have taken the internals out of the valve so it doesn't hold pressure on them and it went back to mushy fading pedal. Bypassed the RABS no difference. Mushy. No leaks so I thing master cylinder next. The other thing I would do different is upgrade to the calipers with the parking brake built in.

The squishy pedal should have been fixed before the brake conversion. Drum brakes can have just as firm feel as a disc setup.

Why? And what make you think that I didn't know it had to be addressed. There is no reason for unhelpful comments. I wanted to do the conversion regardless. I came back to give an update the "new" master cylinder that had just been installed before I parked the truck years ago (to fix the squishy pedal that should have fixed before) was not good from install. Bench bled the new one and the brakes are great.

the first real drive in year was a lot of fun. Got a few kinks to work out.

Do you have one of these tools to adjust the Booster Rod?
Takes out the guess work.
There is cheaper one`s out there, I clicked on this one because of the vid.

Great job on your truck.
