Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Well I am trying to figure out this smart phone crap and post a picture. Back in 95 or so I put the exhaust break on my ‘90 rig add it has worked all well since. It has been off for about two years. Trying to hook it back up and now I don’t remember which wire goes where. The big coil has one wire that goes to “pull coil, one hold coil, & One common ground“. I know which wire is the ground. The small coil has two wiring nuts. In my wiring harness there are two small wires and two large wires. I just don’t remember what Colors go where. The ebrake is a 3 inch ex break, wish I had got a 3 1/2 inch instead but ..... the wire colors are Big: One Yellow and one black. Small: 1 orange and 1 blue. I need to try to do some more tracing out but I thought I would post and maybe someone has some thoughts . TIA . BTW I hope this phone repeats my words a OK!

Another question: That little 1/4" steel line that goes from a fitting in the casting round to the small "coil" (the one with the two small wires hook to)....anyone know what purpose this 1/4" tube does? It's got to somehow do something with exhaust gas putting pressure to that small coil.

Is this line needed?

This EBrake has been off for couple yrs & I'm trying to get it reinstalled again.....& naturally I ALWAYS put parts up in safe place so I know where they are. But the tubing fairy came along & got my 1/4" tubing.....sigh.

The small thing is a pressure switch I think. IIRC that was for the early models and discontinued later. I believe the only thing it does is a trigger a downshift light to let you know there's not much backpressure. Mine doesn't have it.

For the main coil wiring, just take a test light and have someone trigger the control on and off. Pull wire will be hot for about 2 seconds then off, hold wire will be hot until the brake is released. Pull wire may also go to a large starter type relay somewhere on your firewall. I say may because I think some early ones didn't have it. If you don't probably worth adding one.

In case you ever need it, that solenoid is the same as a fuel shut off on 6.6/7.8 diesel and probably other P/MW pump trucks....

Not sure if it would be of help but I see some different install instruction “links” for 3 different models at the bottom of the page http://www.usgear.cc/dc_install.htm

Yes this is what kind of info I was looking for. Thanks
& thanks to you other guys for other info.

I got the thing mounted but not wired in yet. Just too busy lately.

Found this on search.... I have a used US Gear exhaust brake I want to install on one of my trucks. I do not plan to use the USG electronics. The trick is the timer for the pull in coil. Need to cut off power to the pull in about 2-4 seconds after engaging. Trying to keep it simple. Any ideas?

Fleabay....survey says?!?

This is an analog circuit, that's good for up to 30 amp control (if'n I got the link right)...if ya want fancy, digital like, or a different voltage(12-in<>5-out) they've got others at about the same price point.

HOLD THE PRESSES!!!
I think this one actually is more suited for your dc/dc application....

Keep in mind that an auto 12V system is much dirtier and more prone to voltage spikes, etc. than industrial or most electronic systems.

I would go with the industrial automation relay over a microprocessor based Chinese circuit card. If nothing else it's at least sealed.

Why are you not using the USG stock controller? It's simple and easy to install, no reason not to IMHO if it's working. Building your own control setup isn't that hard, but why re-invent the wheel?

Haven’t been a fan of US Gear control boxes since the electric fan clutch controls were such crap. Also adds complexity such as auto exercise and can’t be diagnosed other than replaced.
I just want an armed / disarmed switch, my own micro (limit) switch on the throttle and an on off switch on the shift stick. The only hang up is activating then shutting off the pull in coil. Need it to shut off power to pull in after a few seconds. Adjustable automation relay the way to go!
