zf5 stuck in gear

my 87 f250 6.9 with zf5 got stuck in 3rd gear on the way home tonight. shifter is in the neutral poss. but will not move. any thoughts?

check your oil level. good possibility it's burned up.

any strange noises before the oil change? this is something that is rarely done without a reason.

it has been fine no noises, was shifting hard when cold before oil change, some one put gear oil in it, shifts much better with mercon V problem feels like its in the shift housing
