Shell rotella T oil or castrol oil is the better choice?

If those are your only two choices, then go with the Castrol. and I'm assuming that you are talking the 15w40 diesel oil.

For someone as far north as BC Canada , they might get away with Rotella OK, It's in that climate range where folks seem to make out ok on the stuff so long as the engine has been on it since new. Rotella is thin stuff , so in the cold it's not going to get cooked off as easily, but it doesn't fare well in extreme conditions.

You'll get as many answers as there are days of the month. Most folks (and I'm not really sure why) are passionate about their oil choice. Whatever oil you use, make sure it is diesel rated, 15W-40 is a good viscosity to use, and make sure you keep it changed when needed.

I have good luck w Valvoline. Every time I use Rotella in anything it seems to burn off FAST, so I dont use it anymore.

I have never used Castrol

Castrol Choice

Hey,

Allow me to answer your question with a short story of an experience I wish I didn't have. At one time I owned a 1 ton Chevy 4x4 with a small block 350 turned into a 385 stroker using all stock components (other than carb and chrome molly rings). My so called uncle (by marriage) was jealous of my truck because it ran better than his. He waited for me to do an oil change ( I used Castrol syntec 20W50), and he went out and drained my oil from my truck and put the oil into his own truck leaving mine dry. Because I had JUST changed the oil I did not think to check the oil again due to checking it several times only a short time ago. So, thinking the oil pump tick was the pump going bad, I went and priced a new pump. After 2 days of driving my truck because I had no choice ( and this was in 100+ degree weather mid-summer and using a 2 core radiator), the truck blew. When I tore the engine apart, the cam was in 3 pieces, a lifter rod was hanging out my oil pan, 2 connecting rods were bent, and the number 8 piston was black, chunked, and siezed to the block.
If you ask me, Castrol is a good choice. 2 days in over 100 degree weather with a 2 core radiator on just a thin film of oil and no oil pressure..... Because of that incident, I trust only Castrol. The only other oil I would recommend is Royal Purple.

It could be worse snap... It could be a diesel thread on military vehicles ;Sweet
Or worse yet, political/religious :rotflmao

Those debates ALWAYS end badly.

FYI : The Army when I was in the service 11 years ago used Mobile synthetic in a can you had to puncture open. Yay for cans. LOL

Another oil thread, lol.

Yup...my thougths exactly.

It always ends with the full range of options and everyone is set in their ways.

Use a properly rated oil and change it at normal intervals. Too easy.

Thad...awaiting the next oil thread.
