Guys, I have been using Delo 15-40 for a long time in mu 89 n/a 7.3. I would normally add about 1 quart of oil every 750-1000 miles; due to oil leaks and the numbers of miles on the truck. Walmart brand was pretty good also, but when I had the chance to pick up Shell Rotella I jumped on it. Sad thing is : here lately Ive been using a lot more oil. to the tune of 1 quart per 500 miles! Is it the oil or maybe my CDR is bad?? Im not particularly worried but Id like to know if the change would cause this. Can anybody chime in and give me your opinions......

I can't say that I have or haven't had issues with drinking Rotella, mostly due to leaks. I have seen it said enough times that I switched away from Rotella. Recently, I've discovered that there's a farm store called Bomgaar's that carries Harvest King brand oil. I picked up a 5 gallon bucket for $59.99 (regular price). Even though it's about 35 miles away and Orscheln (where I was buying my Delvac) is 20 miles away, I'll be going with the Harvest King oil. It's more affordable at $10 less than Delvac's sale price and it's made by a big oil producer (I can't remember which one) so it's a good product. I know that Rural King carries it, but the closest one that I know of is in Valentine, NE which is about a 4.5 hour drive.

I never understood why people swore by certain brands. I've used Napa oil, which what I gather is a rebranded valvoline, penzoil, Rotella, delo, engine ran the same, but did use oil more than other. I just go with Napa cause it's cheapest here.

I have never ran rotella to find out if my truck drinks it, but a lot of guys have that issue, of their oil consumption going way up using that oil. a few dont have an issue with it, but it seems more do than not. Have no idea why.

cant remember the name of the oil but its blue and it says endorsed by cummins anyways I've had best luck with burning oil with that brand, as for the cdr pop the intake off and look into the plenum if your cdr is bad there will be oil all over your intake and a small puddle where the cdr connects into the intake, i haven't seen a idi not burn at least some oil via the cdr but you can tell when its bad enough to cause that amount of consumption, I soaked my cdr in diesel and that slowed it down some but I never keep good track of my oil consumption

I think what it comes down to, (cant remember the name for it) is evaporation.
Poor a little on a warm concrete floor....I did this a few years ago, dripped some on walking across a shop, and forgot to wipe it up right away. A half? hour later it was very nearly dry....
