it sounds like with the money you are planning on spending on an aod you could build a good e4od setup. Im not an e40d fan, just saying.

Yeah i was thinking about the E4OD also, however i have an AOD and 4r70w laying around. Can I use the 4r70w input shaft and overdrive if i use i different converter? I know the 4r70w has a single input. I was going to use the planet from from the 4r70w as well for the 2.84 first.

I don't recall, do you have a turbo or not? Taking it easy on the transmission is what makes it last, if you ABUSE anything it will break, and this has nothing to do with the quality of the product.

Is it possible to use a 5R55 that came on a Powerstroke truck with an IDI? I am not to concerned about the electronics of it. I can get a controller or make it a manual valve body.

i dont know what the bellhousing pattern is on the one or the pump bolt pattern to say for sure. I think its the 5r110 that you are talking about which i think had the same patter as an E4oD or 4R100, which should bolt up with ford parts

The 5r110 is a great tranny. Very stout. But it does not unfortunately bolt up to the 7.3 directly.

I have had exceptional good fortune with my E4OD. A huge cooler is what keeps it alive. And once while getting up hay my wife forgot to put it in 1st gear and it got up to 280* (even with the giant cooler,it was a lack of airflow)on my Isspro gauge. Gauge is mounted in the body not the fluid line so it was cooking. Fluid started pouring out the front seal and I figured it was fried. Once it was cooled down completely I added fluid to see how bad off it was but it never leaked a drop and hasn't missed a beat since. I have even pulled the gooseneck with 9, 5' x 4' round bales on it here recently with no issues. I am sure it's now weaker than before but it just takes a little care in operating to not fry it further.

Sorry didn't mean to write a novel. I just don't thiink the E4OD is satans offspring like so many others.

of course this is only speculation, and my own personal experience, but I have no doubt in my mind I'm putting down more than 200rwhp. Diesel JD rode in my truck a month back and can put in his personal opinion too if he wishes. My last diesel was a 96 PSD with an exhaust and intake, and my IDI easily out tows it. 85mph was easily attainable going up hill, with 9k trailer behind it and EGT's under 1150.

It has more to do than just my DPS parts. Its a combination of everything I did when putting my engine together.

I actually tried contacting a shop to do a dyno but it looks like they are no longer in business, which puts the next closest shop over 250 miles away.

Mikey, lets get back to what you are working with if I may. The C6 and 3:31 gears are not a horrible start. I remember TCI making a streetfighter c6 available with planetary 1st and 2nd gears. This and a GV either as a n OD or UD unit could give you stump pulling low end power or really good low end power and better highway manners. I bet you could get the new C6 and the GV for the same money as a built aod or E4OD. This would be an awesome way to show that yester years technology can keep up if the right thing is done to it.

My only worry would be that the 3:31 gears put more stress on the driveshafts and u joints than the 4:10's would. It would come down to how much and how often you are towing.

HAHA, yeah already my rear U-joint at the yoke is bad. I dont know if it was wore already or the stress from 3.31's did it. Anyway im mindset on building an AOD for it and putting the 4.10's back or 4.30's possibly. Im going with AOD because of the ratios and the non-electronic aspect. It has a 2.84 first and .7 OD, this and 4.10's or 4.30s will make a great combo for whatever with those ratios. I know some here disagree with the AOD for the application i have, however with 4.30's , and the build, etc., i doubt it will give me trouble. Hell, some F250's had the 4R70W which is a modified AOD and they have an 15000 gross carry weight with 4.10's. This will be a good experiment as well. Im just getting all the pieces together at the moment.
