Let us know how things work out, as I'd be interested in getting an overdrive myself. 2500 rpm's at 65 mph is still more than I like traveling long distances empty with. Goose posted what I was planning on doing with mine, lower first gear, a heavy duty TC with less slip, and maybe a gearvendors behind it.

My powerstroke has 215/85/16 tires and 4.10 gears with the ZF5 i see around 26-2700 at 70

yeah i'll let you all know how it goes. I also noticed today the the FMX transmission was behind 400 Big Blocks, which means an AOD will handle at least that engine.. Mike

Ok has anyone seen the insides of an AOD?? They were made with the 302 in mind, yes they can be built but for the cost you could have an E4OD, even a built on im not sure could take a diesel long term.

Seen them built them, currently running one behind a 302 in my 62 f-100. The direct clutch is rather small, but all the other clutches are good size, most the same as an FMX. start with one from behind a v8 they have more clutch plates. If you ever plan to tow DO NOT USE OVERDRIVE. Also they are not found of being manually shifted to hold high rpms. Ratios are 2.40 1.40 1 and .67. aode and 4r70w had a 2.84 first 1.55 second. It would probably be wise to upgrade to the 2.84 first as this planetary set has a wider overdrive band. Also a larger aftermarket overdrive piston would be a good idea. The aod has a tv cable that is critical to shift quality and survival of the transmission might be tricky to hook to the ip. If you do this I would consider a lentech valvebody. Changes shift pattern to D21 with electronic lockout in overdrive, and lets you effectively and safely manual shift the trans.

yeah but a 400 ford engine was the biggest piece of **** they ever made.
Untill you rebuilt them with some compression and a decent cam.

400 FORD engine will make excellent street engine.

Just wont burn diesel!
