I headed down to Ron's yesterday with this load:

The 82 Rabbit Pickup is my shop truck and it has the 1.6 NA Diesel.

The Jetta has a Canadian 1.9 AAZ Turbo Motor in it.

Ron is swapping the motors for me, I am keeping the Rabbit Pickup, and selling the Jetta. Should about double the HP and Torque of the Rabbit with the 1.9 AAZ Turbo Diesel.

So I dropped these of at his house and picked up Droopy! ;Sweet

Go Ron Go!

I hope the engine in the Rabbit doesn't end up painted pink.........

:rotflmao

I really want one of those VW diesels, however, I can't fit in the pickups (6'7").

Do you have any info on the AAZ motors? I've been trying to figure out the engines, what cars they came in, what parts interchange, and if I can turbo a N/A engine.

Nice looking rigs there, fo sho.

Nice Darrin!! I don't blame you on doing the swap! I had one of those little pickups when I was in college. It was awesome on fuel although in the winter I had a beach of a time getting her started. Anyway they are a dog the way they are. I remember you really had to plan when approaching any grades. I wish I still had that thing - other than being slower than death it was alot of fun!

Little slow on responses on this thread,.. sorry,..

On the Rabbit, Here is the original thread on the truck and how it looked when I started with it:

http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29277&highlight=rabbit+shop+truck

Along with the paint job I also redid the interior, Installed Recaro Seats, recovered the headliner, and rear interior panels. I also had some leftover Fat Matt interior sound deadening so while the interior was gutted it got the full treatment of that as well. Along with a new sound system,..;Sweet

For the Trailer,..It is a buddy of mine that owns a car lot, He lets me use it whenever I need to. It is real nice having that thing at my disposal!

For the motor color, Rumor has it that it was painted International Grey,.. I have not seen pics yet..;Really

As for the price on the Jetta, probably like $1800.00. That is with a new clutch, rebuilt Injection Pump, and the motor will have about 40K on it. The body is real solid but the paint job is real bad! Looks good from the distance in the pics. Once I get it back and get it ready to sell I will post more on that.

Cant wait to get the Rabbit back with the 1.9 AAZ turbo motor, It should scoot pretty good, and still get 45 MPG. I just need to decide what to do with the exhaust,. (wont do stacks) It has a performance down pipe with 2,1/5" piping. Just cant decide where to go from there. It will be straight pipe out the back or side somewhere. Any suggestions,..?

Still working on em.
The Caddy is less than 2 hours from completion and the Jetta is awaiting a few brackets to get the IP back in place and a motor reinstall.

I ended up getting a nasty bit of the flu bug at the tail end of the week and had to force myself to be in the shop Friday till 2:30 in the afternoon. Then 2 boys from our church came over and spent the weekend helping split firewood. That derailed everything as I had to drop the brake line job on my neighbors 94 F-150 that I was currently working on as I could lay down to do the work.
So I had to drop all the shop work for awhile to switch the motor over to the log splitter from the troy bilt tiller. Ugh. THen had to supervise them the entire weekend.

So hopefully tonight I can get back into the shop after I finish up mowing the lawn and attempt to experieince Farfegnuggen.;Really
