Same thoughts here... I have the same brand of hitch though mine fits to the frame a bit differently. I had to replace the tank a while back and pissed myself off having to drop the hitch also. Thankfully it's just 6 bolts but it's just the weight and angle and everything is covered in diesel...

The rain has been almost every day this year

That's premium NY road salt for you.... That coupled with years of sitting. The two combined is a horrible combination. Even the leaf springs are rotting apart.

I didn't even see the step underneath all of the rust until you mentioned it. I've seen exhaust like that, but not the hangers. All I can think when I see these pictures is "and people in Texas tell me that my Blue Truck has a lot of rust!". They have a hard time believing me when I tell them that I see trucks 20 years newer with the same amount of rust or more.

I suppose I could, however I have another crossmember here. I'm not sure if it's E4OD or 2WD ZF5, but I'm just going to modify it with a piece of pipe. At least that's the current plan.

@chillman88 What is that???? Is that the stuff I've heard of but NEVER seen?? That stuff they call "RUST?"

I've been literally EVERYWHERE, absolutely everywhere all over these local 49 states & most of Canada during my semi-trucking days.....& even dare to say I've seen EVERYTHING ........but this is a new one on me!!!!!

They better hurry up & start making autos out of PLASTIC!!!!

I'm absolutely shocked. Not 6 inches away the frame is literally gone, but the bolts still came out of the driveshaft with very little fight.
