I know that this is an older discussion. I have been in the marine industry for many years and have experience with the marine version of the 6.5. Overall the marinized version does well for size/weight/horsepower. The main problem has been cracks in the heads due to heat. Also, the marine industry follows a basic recreational use of 100 hours a year, 500hrs for five years. Marine Diesel engines are based on recreational, medium duty and commercial use. So you will find that commercial or continuous duty engines will have a much lower power rating for longevity. Marine engines generally have unlimited cooling from raw water intake. Water generally transfers heat 20 times better than air. You can turn up the fuel, boost pressure, cam, timing, but this creates heat. The basic Penisular marine engine is 300-320hp. Raw water heat exchanger, raw water intercooler, etc…. I really appreciate what y’all do in the tireless pursuit of research.
