So, even though I'm only 40, my dad (who died in 2012) was in Vietnam in 1970. He was a mechanic on Long Ben Post just outside of Saigon, as a mechanic they would fly him or drive him to a veriety of jeeps or whatever to get it running and get it back to the base.....no gun, only a tool box. I don't know if such things are genetic, but I've only had to leave a vehicle on side of the road once Im usually able to make it live long enough to get home. Way to go IDIbronco!

So I drove to work. But at some point in the recent past I saw a thread that mentioned the CDR or CBD or CFH or something valve and that it effects oil consumption somehow. Well mine wasn't sealed very well, but I never really thought that much about it, but I fixed it up so it doesn't leak and I put a different one (not new, just different) on there. So in a few days ill see if it quits drinking oil. I also saw a "Certified Dirty Idle" sticker on a mid 90's dodge in the parking lot. It was cute, looked just like the "clean idle" sticker but dirty. It probably had other funny stuff in the details but I was too exhausted to inspect it.

Yeah, the jury is out on this one. I'll know in a couple days. At least I "feel" like I did something. I tell you though, I was delivering in Freeport today, it's basically a swamp near the Gulf, and I sure would have appreciated a smokey diesel! The yellow flys we're tearing me up! But really, I think my junkyard motor is tired. It's payed the piper and I owe it now.

I'll say it definitely didn't effect my situation. But all the money I save putting oil in my fuel cell I can spend putting it in my crankcase. I've got a about a dozen things to do to my wrecker before I can start using it as my driver, and then I'll lay the duelly up for "ministry" ,as I call it.

Oh yeah, she drinks oil on both sides of the pistons! But I can't complain too much, I paid $1200 for a running turbo IDI motor over 2yrs ago and it's been like the Energizer Bunny. I owe it a rebuild.

Got my lifters done, need to time it, flipping cars is out of control right now, at least in NJ. I'm back to having no time, but my husband loves how all the shitboxes are leaving here

But now the fuel heater o ring has begun leaking!

I think they hacked up the rear so bad "mounting" (@Dylanviey ) that rear bumper all of the traditional mounting areas are trash so I don't think having one is in my future haha.

My mechanical punch list is shrinking so maybe I'll have time to put in speakers that work this year haha

Same for my dad! They would blindfold him and take him places, he'd fix stuff all alone and they'd come back the next day.

My family definitely abandoned a lot of cars on the side of the road when I growing up. Being broken down in Massachusetts in winter with no cell phones back then, we had a lot of good Samaritans picking up a family of 6! I think this is the biggest reason I do what I do now.

So today I sold my truck. I had a guy I know ask me if I wanted to sell it a couple of weeks ago. I said no. He said give me a number. I gave him a number that would make me happy, and today I traded the title for a check.

Congratulations Brett, I know it's kind of a bitter sweet deal selling your IDI, but it's sounds like you made out ahead on it.
Soooooo............tell us........what are you gonna get to replace it? Lol

Yeah, it’s a mixed bag sort of deal. I really was pretty happy with the way the truck turned out, but it wasn’t the ideal configuration for me. I would have rather had a SRW and 4x4. Also the truck was really pretty comfortable for what it was, but it’s not really a pleasure to drive for a 100+ miles of commuting every day. I’m actually considering replacing it with something about 30 years newer. That would mean trading in my ‘16 GMC as well, and picking up a payment. But it’s nice that I don’t “have to” do anything right away.
