Good to hear on no machining. I'll have to try a set out sometime.

And I believe it about the old 12g's. 20 years ago those olds 350 diesel were still around, because I remember my uncle having one in a car and driving it. I still make fun of him for his obsession with that car. But I haven't seen one of those in a decade, even in junkyards.

The plugs I bought weren't rebranded anything, 12g's in acdelco boxes straight from the gm dealer. He said they were one of the few sets on the shelf at the warehouse. I remember back then reading online about them having a shelf life. It was something about moisture getting in them and that's what caused them to explode.

The 12g in your post doesnt look anything like the 12g plugs that I have which is why I thought they could have been reboxed. I have seen many 9g and 11g plugs (original for 6.2 and 6.5) that were just rebranded alites. some if you looked close enough you could make out the alite part number under the slashes that were stamped into the body.

So far mine have been ding great fires right up when I get fuel. Somehow I'm slightly loosing prime over night I did Russ's return kit and replaced anything that was damp in the rest of the system. It still has the 6.9 fuel water separator on the firewall on the drivers side its not leaking but I need to bypass it. If I still don't get it shes getting a electric lift pump. But in the morning I turn it over for 3-5 seconds before even hitting the glow plugs just to get fuel pumping then I cycle the plugs for 12-15 seconds and she pops off on the first revaluation

I did the electric lift pump conversion on both my trucks and really like it.My favorite part is not having to kill the batteries or starter when priming the fuel system.

Are you sure the plugs need to be circumcised for them to work good? Out the box they seem to do well at 20°f, will see
as time progresses more.

I would definitely not run them with out the machining work! The hex will bottom out on the head before the tapered seal at the bottom

I bought an Autolight 1115 glow plug back in 2018 just to bench test it. I heated up a little faster than a Beru ZD1a and stayed that way for over a minute without damage. I unplugged it when the test lead started to smoke. Tried it again after it cooled off and it still worked fine. Since I also had a set of Berus on the same order, that's what went into the truck.

I've always cautioned against using Autolites but all this has me wondering. Maybe I'll hook the next one up to a higher voltage just to see if the tip will swell or not, because I couldn't get it to fail. And the failure mode of any glow plug is what scares me.

I think the 1115 was the part number for the olds diesels.....that took the 12g ac plug. I have tested some that wouldnt burn out, but no test over time.

The autolites that are meant for the 6.9 and 7.3 application are garbage. If you decide to test either of those part numbers, stand back!

Yup, I almost wish I never tested that 1115 plug because I read all the horror stories about over the years. I also tried a wellman 088 (now diesel rx) years ago and it failed miserably. The 088 is supposed to be self regulating too. Who knows, maybe I just got a bad one at the time? At any rate, I'm still running Beru plugs because it's the only type that lasted well and wouldn't swell when they failed. Although if the quality is going down as others are saying, I'll have to keep my options open.

Next time around I think I'll try the 80034. FYI a drill and dremel/grinder can diy lathe, just gently chuck the gp bulb with some tape maybe.

Sounds like fuel is leaking back to the tank, I have similar issues. I've been recommended to install a check cable on the fuel line but haven't yet.

Yah it's something like that. I replaced the return kit with Russes kit and replaced the olives too. Lift pump looks new as well. I'm just going to put a electric lift pump in next that will prime the system while I glow. After the morning start it pops right off for the rest of the day

Lost another set of ZD-1's today. This set was on manual control, 12v. They lasted about 5 months, 1 start per day. 7 seconds on, 4 off and another 4 seconds on. My oldest set of zd1's are also on manual control, exactly the same way, they have about 150k on them and 10 years. still working fine.

Ordered a set of 80034 and 60G's. Going to start experimenting with them also. did the 80034 spades fit ok into the 6.9 female harness plugs?
