Hey all, the wipers aren't always parking correctly my 90 F250.

What controls the park function, is it internal to the wiper motor? I know some of the GM wiper motors have a circuit board you can replace, are these similar at all?

I have a spare wiper motor but if I can fix it without pulling the whole wiper motor it would be great.

My RV's almost never parks and only has high speed. Sometimes gets stuck mid wipe until you move it by hand. Probably a weak motor, not looking forward to ever replacing it.

Good luck brother. Always bugged the heck out of me:mad:

Yeah I could just swap the motor out but that's a royal pain and I'd like to avoid it haha

Actually you might have a couple problems. If you have intermittent wipers the only thing that doesn't go through the intermittent control box is the high speed. Might have to pull that out and try to reflow the solder.

These old van ones have the wiper motor mounted inside the dash, not under the hood.

Mine has only low and high speed, that's it.

I'm venturing to say it's most likely in the motor. I don't remember 100% though. Its been a while, but I think the wiper motors are pretty easy to change. Just unplug it, unbolt the motor and pull it out enough to unclip the linkage arm and it's free. I dont remember ever pulling the cowl panel or anything.

Hmm that's odd. I had to on my 91. To be honest, I don't know if I tried without pulling the cowl.

Ah ok gotcha.

At least it doesn't look too terribly hard to gain access. The top of the dash is in 2 pieces, a padded portion closer to you and a metal part further away. It has a seam between the two with screws. I'm not sure if padded has to come off forst to remove the metal portion or not. I'm thinking maybe not since it has the seam between them, but I could be wrong.

They put a big access cover in the middle, but there's almost nothing there from what I saw, so it's kind of pointless. Maybe the original plan was to have the wiper motor in there, but that idea got scrapped but the cover didn't. Or maybe older ones did have it there and a partial redesign moved it without deleting the access cover?

To check the Park switch in the wiper motor unplug it and jump the low speed side to power with fused jumper wire. This is the terminal that the White wire plugs into. While the wipers are running take a 12 volt test light that is hooked to 12 volts and touch the terminal that would plug into the Black/Pink wire it should light the bulb as the wipers pass through the park position. This should test the wiper motor These wires are correct on my 86 F250

Yeah, & this fix/repair is about number 203 down my to-do list. LOL

I don't know if my prob on my '90 is what you have, but were ever my wipers are at when I turn off that's where they stop. For several yrs. I just try to time the "stop" down close to the bottom on the down or up stroke.
When the windshield is iced/snowed up I like to stop'em 3-4-5" up so defrost will keep'em warm & unstuck till windshield is thawed & pretty.

No the worst part is they work fine sometimes and other times they don't. Leaving work today and they were working fine, then started acting up, then fine again, all in the same trip.

Are they stopping in the middle of the windshield or is it that the intermittent wipers work sometimes and not others?

Yep. Mine is weak even in high. One time it got stuck mid wipe when on the highway with no where to safely pull over. At least rain was light enough and it was daytime so I could see well enough. Once I got to a gas station (30 miles later) I grabbed the WD40 and sprayed the linkage bushings to help them out some. It's not the best thing but it's what I had on hand that was easy to use without tearing everything apart.

This is the wiper section from a '93 manual, I think it's the same tho. hope there's something useful here.
