it does was confused when I googled it before so my late "93 is a Navistar International will have to see if i can find a plate for it then thanks

Nobody will care if you use an IH plate though lol!

I personally prefer the IH logo over the Navistar logo, but to each his own. They make Navistar badges that go in place of the Ford logo on the Grille too. Lots of the powerstroke guys run them. I would buy a replacement logo in a heartbeat if I could find the one in my avatar!

I thought about seeing if I can make the logo into a decal and get a Ford badge and put the decal over top of it and then coat it with some kind of clear epoxy. I haven't taken the time to play with that idea though.

The quick and dirty description.....

In ~1979 the International Harvester Corporation was starting to fall on hard times due to the Economy, Mis-Management and and extended labor strike. In 1980-81, the stopped production on the LightLine trucks (Scout, Travelall, Travelette and Pickups). In 81 they sold the Cub Cadet division to MTD. In 85 they sold the construction equipment division off the Dresser and the IH Agricultural division to J.I. Case (Tenneco). This sale included the International Harvester Name, the "The man on a Tractor" IH logo and all marketing and naming rights.

So in the 83-86 Ford Vehicles using the 6.9 IDI the Valve Cover decal said International Harvester.

In 87, what was left, the Truck, Bus and Engine division had to change their name, because they didn't own International Harvester anymore. They changed their name to Navistar, and even for 1 or 2 model years (87 and maybe 88) the trucks were called Navistar. Their sales plummeted because no one knew who Navistar was. They changed the name to International Truck and Bus, and International Engine, a Navistar Company...

So the current International Truck, Bus and Engine is the only part of the original 1902 IH/fFarmall left.......

Kinda busy afternoon. Got the winter oil change done with some 10w-30.

Wired up a SuperDuty vacuum pump to a toggle switch temporarily permanent. Now I can switch HVAC modes again! Also yanked out my vacuum pump while I was in there. I will say before anyone asks I DO have hydroboost, and my cruise never worked so all the vacuum does is the HVAC.

I tried fixing one of my leaks. Holy cow, there's supposed to be an O ring in the housing? Did they use enough RTV?

I never knew there was a sticker here. Clean is so much better!

I also decided to take a gamble...

Being a GM guy for years I'm used to being able to modify the pressure and flow of the Saginaw power steering pumps like this:

http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/2013/powersteeringmods/

I was disappointed to find that you can't do that with the Thompson pump that Ford uses. I noticed that the pressure valves in these pumps look very similar...

But the whole assembly is quite a bit longer in the Saginaw pump compared to the Thompson pump...

After very scientifically stabbing a screwdriver in the holes in the two pumps I found that the depth between the two is pretty close. So I decided what the hey, I have a couple spare pumps here so the worst that could happen is I toss schrapnel through my expensive hydroboost unit and my rebuilt steering gear....

I went ahead and drilled the Ford outlet fitting to 5/32 and removed the washer from the Saginaw pressure valve and plopped the whole valve/spring assembly into the pump that is on my truck.

I don't know yet if it's any better but it made it around the block and "feels" better. I'll update y'all after I have driven it a few days and the placebo effect wears off. One thing for sure. It seems to be moving more fluid than before. Never created a vortex in the reservoir before! I'm going to have to do a fluid flush soon too.

While there isn't an o-ring in there, it may be a little bit excessive on the RTV. If it works, you may have to make a thread on your power steering pump modification.

That's the plan. It worked around the block but as with similar modifications time will tell.

My only concern is I have a decent whine since the hydroboost swap with all new everything except the cooler. It's a bit worse with the modified pump. I'm hoping a good fluid change will help. Sounds like it's coming from the hydroboost unit itself. Don't hear it outside but it's annoying inside.

If it helps with the steering, I'd do it to mine even with vacuum assist brakes. I'd just be afraid that the extra flow would make the steering "twitchy" at higher speeds.

Yeah Chevy tried fixing that with that $@##&&$# variable orifice after the pump. Ended up causing more problems than it fixed so I removed it on my 97.

I don't know if I'll be able to tell as much of a pig as this thing is lol. I'll let you know though.

Dont the gms run an actual power steering cooler? May be a necessity with less bypass in our pumps.

Actually my 97 K1500 didn't have a cooler from the factory. I might end up putting one in because of the hydroboost though. The fluid in this truck has always looked dirty, I might be overheating it. Worth looking into.

Not as pretty as the factory tow mirror brackets, but way better than floppy "western" mirror heads!

Don't you remember talking about them at the rally? LOL

I took the mirror heads off a van, then put them on my factory brackets. I was planning on getting ahold of you whenever I get around to putting the correct mirrors and brackets on after how awestruck you were at the rally lol!

EDIT: If you're like me and don't really care about the origin, you might be able to do the same thing with a set of the older gooseneck mirrors from a Chevy. I know they were pretty similar.

Didn't notice any twitchy at 55-60 today, put about 50 miles on it. It has definitely made a difference. This beast used to be a chore in some spots around town and I noticed the power steering actually working today, even in a couple places I didn't realize it was struggling before. Hydroboost seems stronger too which is good.

The real test will be a shopping trip in a parking lot lol.
