I know wmo filtering has been beaten to death here but I have some more questions. I currently run a water filter fed by a bucket pump. It is messy and a pain to pump it 30 plus times to get a gallon of oil. Plus I go through the filters quite often. I dont know how well it is actually filtering either. I dont want to save 50 bucks on fuel and have to spend 500 bucks on a new IP.

I am very interested in a centrifuge. Anybody here run one? I was looking at dieselcraft and all them but they seem really expensive. I would have to burn around 600 gallons just to break even on that puppy. I can african engineer anything so I dont really want to buy an assembled kit.

Also Is there a way around a 200 transfer pump? Im thinking like an oil pump off a buick or some car I can get at a junk yard?

I want to do this as cheaply as possibly, but I also want to get all the harmful stuff out of the oil.

If you want to come out to Ft. White I can show you what I am doing. It is a dieselcraft but it seems to work well.

As far as the p/s pump, how do I get past the reservoir issue? I have no doubt it will pump the oil, but my concern is how do I supply oil to the pump? Also where can I get an electric motor cheap?

Find a pump from something with a remote resivior, most newer fords and dodges have remotes-

Good call didnt think of that. I was just thinking about my truck, every other car that my family has has a remote setup.

I'm kinda partial to usind a small home style compressor with a handle and wheels. It will already have an electric motor mounted on a base and you can mount a ps pump in place of the compressor pump. I'd search for a broken compressor on craigslist.

Ive also heard about people using compressed air to push oil through the filters. I like the sound of this because no matter how thick the oil is or how clogged the filters are, it wont burn up a pump. I really dont know the best way to create a tank to hold the oil and fill it with air

I used an oil pump out of a '85 Chevy 350 with the back plate blocked of by a piece of 1/8" steel plate, the passage in the mounting foot blocked off with some JB-Weld and two new holes drilled and tapped in the case for ease of plumbing and better throughput. It will make 100psi in a blink, more than enough to run a 'fuge and it self primes like a big dog because it's a positive displacement gear pump. I heat and recirculate down to 0.5 micron using a mix of (now) about 25% WVO, 50% WMO and 25% ULSD. I get a little smoke @ WOT but otherwise none, and have seen a definite improvement in power. Here are a couple pics of the setup, pretty straight forward with valving to send wherever and to the fill nozzle.

bio farmer, i like that set up. i have been kicking around addin heat to my system to 1. make it easier to filter and 2. boil off the water i get sometimes.

i personally use air to push my system. no pumps to burn out and if i want to change the pressure i just give a turn on the regulator.

i am filling an old well expansion tank filling it with oil then capping it off and adding air. i then open the valve at the bottom and let it go throught the filters. a 5 mic goldenrod and 1 mic house filter. i would like to get a centerfuge and remember there was a place you could buy one for about 200. i will see if i can find the link.

-for $179, that's about the lowest I've personally seen so far. I am going to get one just for the water removal aspect because I don't know how well the heating method is actually working and I want to get the fuel as dry as possible. I read that running a lot of pressure on filters can force crud through, hence my zero pressure & recirculate method with large bag filters. Maybe overkill, but I'm trying to limit my risk as much as I can within the scope of my financial ability- but a c-fuge is definitely on the "purchase soon" list.
