Been wondering what's been up with pricing lately people seem to be nuts or i'm just ridiculously cheap cookoo

so out of state theirs a alright looking newer body style idi turbo crew cab for $1,500-- this seems high to me for one it needs work mechanical and body wise

i turned down a few years ago an 89 crew cab 5sp that needed ip for $1,100 didn't think it was worth it

I sold a 92 F-350 cc 5sp turbo for $1,800 and he drove it home!!!

i see just fair looking idi's that are 2wd for over 2k!!!
and if it's 4x4 it's worth $4,500 or trade for duramax

I managed to get $1,400 for my old 89 reg cab f-250 7.3 5sp granted it needed a transfer case but it was a nice beater truck with brand new tires

here's some local stuff i mean some of this seems ridicules unless i'm missing something

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2197278934.html
i swear this was listed for 3k this spring and other members looked at it and said stay away and he did want almost 8 k when he started out !!

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2194838675.html
it looks decent but is it really a 4 k truck

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2153129236.html
7k for an average crew cab 5sp

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2142102577.html
transfer case going bad and $4,500 that's less than i paid for my cummins

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2140445484.html
runs great $2,500 has a bad trans so you have to trailer it home..sweet

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2213093296.html
$2,800 a lil steep for me kid down the road had almost same truck and traded it for a 96 f-150 and boot

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2212980255.html
this was a good deal

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2203560084.html
i'm sure it gets looks but $3,500 dollar looks with little neg price and axles shafts aren't 100% whoa

http://bloomington.craigslist.org/cto/2144065018.html
i'm not even sure if $2,500 is good for this
needs fuel pump and cheap price not so sure bought 94 cc turbo for a third of that price and even in parts didn't get near 2,500

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/bar/2200819455.html
$2,800 whoa seen this truck listed for as low at 1,800 but he know's what he has

i'm not narking on idi's or their prices but these people will most likely sit on this stuff till scrap hits a new record high and it's up to par with what they want..

Would someone really trade a duramax straight up for a 4x4 reg cab non turbo idi? don't think i found that link but you can dream right

and idi stuff that used to be worth something i got to decent idi motors both have no ip's one has a crack in block but is still all there and another just has a valve cover removed can't get $100 each for them so i'm gonna crush them instead  even parts motors were supposed to be worth something
if you paid over $400 for a running idi nowadays you'd be nuts it seems

on the other hand my freind sold a 85 f-350 cc 2wd with a ats turbo and 4sp for $3,500 it had rust and could of used some work

so am i a negative Nancy about this stuff or is it just high prices for avg stuff?

I don't have time to look at all of those adds, but any runnable IDI seems to me it should be worth $1500 to $2K regardless of age. A running motor is worth $800-1K and transmissions, running gear and other parts should be worth a several hundred as well.

Those prices don't really seem too outrageous. at least for where I'm from (Western SD). It's pretty dang rare when you'll see any diesel for less than 2500...despite condition, IDI or not. Once and awhile you'll find 'em cheaper but not often. Hell, I saw a NA 6.9 motor with 160k at a local salvage yard for 1600 bucks! and that's pretty common pricing! But many many people up here drive diesels...

Most of those are asking dealership prices... My truck cost $5500 back in 2006, with a warranty from a Ford Dealership and had 117,000 miles on it. Did I mention that there was no rust on it? But if that's the way prices are out round SDs parts it might be time to get a trailer and start hauling Michigan trucks that can be picked up for 1k-1500 running. Look like hell but run nice.

Yeah I know people around here who do that quite a bit. Hell, that's the reason I bought the IDI I have now. It may have been missing parts but I got it for 500 and it's cheaper to piece it back together than to buy one that's complete. As for IDI's on my local CL at the moment there's a 2wd dually with no bed for 2500 a 89 2wd dually for 2400 and a 7.3 motor for 800. It's Frickin' ridiculous!!

Maybe its inflation caused by a combination of:

1. "Cash for Clunkers" causing a dearth in good reliable used vehicles.

2. New F-250's and 350s are over $50K. (And haven't been deemed reliable yet.)

I have had two jokers offer me low ball bids on my '86 F-350 CC. It is absolutely rust free, turbo, ARP studs, new IP and Injectors, gauges, GVO, etc... NO WAY I am selling for less than $3000.:sly

one you got a lot of idis local round here the selection sucks
looks like a lot of them add in for new parts
also the service body truck well its dully and service body bodya lone is worth 1k if good shape
and the plow guy well 2k for truck 2k for plow so 4k aint too bad
and the nice dully pickups well give or take they are harder to find so you can ask more
also lately ive seen clers loballin a lot of people so you post 4k someone offers 2500 and you sell it

but the economy is coming back people are not as strapped for cash so they will invest in toys (4wheelers campers etc.) and these are still a cheap reialable tow rig compared to a ******** 8k and up or a chevy which is under powered for almost anything

Yea those prices don't seem out of line. A running IDI regardless of body condition is over $2k here, unless its me that has it for sale, then its worth .10 on the dollar. We gave $900 for a "runnable" 94 CC IDIT with the engine pulled, it turned out the engine was completely shot and we got taken. The only way for us to justify the buy was to strip the truck for everything it had.

A running IDI is worth some money, they are reliable and cheap to maintain.

The only decent one I seen and that's been sold was the 94. That 85 with 85K miles he's lieing flatter than a rug, more than likely 285K for an 85, of course the unsuspecting won't know. As I see it buy a junker cheap, then nickle and dime, then pretty soon, how the heck did I get 7000 in this truck. LOL

i had 3k offered to me for my truck before the lift / turbo / cosmetic work. i like to think with what i have now I could get 4-4.5 but who knows. Some people may think it's worth that, others may not. Just gotta find the right buyer. I wouldn't pay much for a 2wd truck for example. I don't think its a real truck unless it's 4wd.

that 3k offer was 2 weeks after I paid 1500 for it and I was tempted for sure, but it was the first vehicle I ever bought myself so I decided to keep it.
