What to do about radio noise?

Hello guys,

My '88 has the original radio and it sounds fine except for noise that seems to change with engine rpms. This condition is worst when I'm on an AM station and going under an overpass. It exists all the time, though, except on FM. Where the heck does this noise come from, and how can I tame it?

It is probably being caused by the alternator.

turn up the tunes, it'll go away. A newer radio should have noise canceling circutry in it. Now, if all the wireing is stock, yeah its the alternator makeing that hum....

You can get a simple noise filter from radio shack, gets rid of the noise pretty well.
