I don't think its a bad idea. Think about it when you let it shift under a load the clutch in automatic or hydraulically shifted transmissions and manual trannys with a clutch make more heat. (like riding a clutch) slippage causes heat (the absolute worst enemy of most machined especially manual and hydraulically operated clutches whether in oil or not. Think of an automatic with a shift kit -hard jerky engagement. You can do the same (make it hard -or soft with a gentle foot at the right time). I am not always correct but to me this makes a lot of sense and I have always had good luck with semi clutches not going or longevity in automatic trans . I attribute it to big coolers and gentle dancing on the pedals (definitely not gentle on the dance floor.)
