Trailered home a 1989 F350 dump truck that looks great on the outside, but the 7.3 IDI is something else

The bed is 10' long and 7' wide. I'm guessing it weigh about 3,000 lbs. give or take. My mini ex (Takeuchi TB260) is rated to lift 6,660 lbs. @ 9ft radius and 4,300 lbs. @ 12ft radius, so it should be up to the task I think.

Scored a rear cloth seat out of a 95' today for 100 bucks:

It was pretty filthy. Above pics are after round one of cleaning. Once it dries up, I'll vacuum and rinse and repeat until I can't get anymore out of it.

It has lumbar, just need to add a 12V feed to it. Appears to operate a vacuum motor which then goes to switches on the sides.

I've used a pressure washer on seats twice. Once in a car that was driven by someone who worked in the oilfield. The second time was at a car wash. Those seats were covered in rodent residue so a normal vacuum wouldn't have done enough.

Drive up to PA today and picked up the core support. More or less as described. Stripped it down to just the core itself:

While there were no cracks in the 2 common locations like mine has, I did discover a small crack here:

And the very top outer edge on one side is missing a little piece:

But the bottom fender liner supports that are completed rusted away on mine are still present on this one. One side is flawless, the other side is a little thin towards the outside edge and has a small rust hole:

But I can totally work with this one and get it to where it will outlast me. Was it worth $480 ($350 for the core and another $130 for him to drive 1.5 hours towards me) and 9 hours of driving for me, maybe... But there weren't really any good alternatives that I could find.

You have to keep the nozzle back far enough that it doesn't tear the material. I also am liberal with the Simple Green beforehand.

Started running the wire wheel brush on the core support, switching between different shapes and sizes. Will use my small needles scaler in the corners, making sure to be gentle. Did discover one other small crack. Plan to get those welded up before hitting it with POR-15.

I also pulled one of the rear axles:

It is 35 splines and 1.5" diameter across the teeth:

I think I have a Sterling 1.25, but from another site, it looks like this part (225SL56A) will fit either a 1.25 or a 1.5).

I know we discussed e-lockers many pages back, but I think for my needs, an old school Detroit Locker should fit the bill.

Also picked up some white gloss paint and was happy to discover is was a perfect match to the white the truck was painted with:

So I'll be painting the hood white to match the rest of the truck along with the core support after its POR-15 treatment, and also a few other spots that were over sprayed with different colors (dark grey).

Snowing again here in VA again today. Next nice weekend that we have, I'll see about removing the dump bed.

I wouldnt shake a stick at a tiny bit of material missing like that, but so far doesn't look too bad. These axles are pretty simple.
When I did the dually swap I reused the existing bearings, just cleaned and reinstalled.
I wonder if your frame is cab n chassis or a dually frame that someone took the bed off and converted it

If you do decide to replace the Brakes, just remove the Hub, makes it so much easier to get the springs on, and a good time to replace the Hub seal.
The Nut is a ratchet Nut, you will need a special socket to remove it.

the sterling 10.25 and 10.5 are pretty much interchangeable. I know the newer electric lockers from ford drop right into the older 10.25s. I would assume that Detroit locker would work for either one as well.

I'll hold off on the locker until I get further with the project, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to make it up my steep hill with a load of dirt in the dump bed, but I'll find out soon enough.

Got a bunch of parts in Friday and yesterday:

Liners and battery trays from NPD and everything else from LMC.

I'll need to stretch out the new carpet somehow since it was rolled up and folded for shipping. In addition to the sound and heat reflecting blankets from LMC, I also got a 54 sq. kit. of sound deadening from Vevor:

Once I get the floor pan fixed up, I figured I'll roll that on first and then the tar paper looking stuff, then the heat insulator and then finally the new carpet. I'm sure it won't be a limousine quiet ride, but it will hopefully make it quieter than it would otherwise be.

Broke one bolt getting things apart, but no big deal. Heat and vise grips got it out.

I want to replace those nut/clip thingies I highlighted in red. What are those called and where can I get them?

Ditto on those thin washers highlighted in yellow. Once you push them on the threads of a bolt, they won't come of easily without messing them up. Not sure what those are called either.

Today was finally a nice day, so I rolled the truck outside for the first time in like a year:

Raised the bed up again, and low and behold, turns out the scissor mechanism is only bolted to the frame, not welded. So off with the tool box to gain access to the bolts:

Bolts all came out surprisingly easy, as did the rear pins. That just left one wire for the running lights on the dump bed and the 2 hydraulic lines for the lift cylinder. 1st attempt at lifting the bed off:

Mini ex didn't have quite enough reach since the scissor extended all the way. So I lowered it back down some and put straps on the scissor to keep it from unfolding all the way. That did the trick:

I then power washed the frame and everything else aft of the cab.
