OK, after a bit more research I think it would be a wise idea to just replace the coolant in my truck with one with the additive already included. Anyone else go that route?
Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to just change the coolant. I've got a NAPA that I shop at and I'll see what they have. Thanks again.@Shamoke ive got a NA ‘88 as well and bought it with green coolant. Put a new aluminum rad with green coolant a few years ago - this past summer finally transitioned over to sca pre charged coolant from Napa.
General consensus is cavitation issues are kinda overstated and if the block was cavitation prone it’d have been an issues decades ago.
Easiest solution in my and some others opinion is to use sca prechsrged and just keep driving. I don’t want to deal with test strips. Coolant filter with sca added won’t hurt.
Replaced the water pump recently and didn’t notice much if any cavitation on the pump surface which helped me feel better - have seen some with a lot of cavitation pocks
