Well,

This weekend, I'm gonna install the Banks turbo & exhaust on the old girl. I've read that damn install manual for most of the winter, along with a printed version of Shimonmon's article on the install ( very good article ) & can't wait to see what kind of difference it makes. There were some problems along the way that were addressed in Shimonmon's Article. Anybody have any tips or things to watch for during the install I would want to know about? How drastic of an improvement should I expect afterwards? Thanks.

Remember how you wished you had the power of a PSD? You won't wish that anymore.

Thats good to here, but I may be doomed. I was just outside looking over the "workzone" & noticed some raw fuel laying on top of the block under the intake. The IP is wet from the adjustment screw cover straight down & appears to be wet at the front of the pump. Everything else is dry. Could fuel be leaking from the adjustment screw cover?

I opted not to refreshed the fuel system after talking to Ken @DPS who asked if the truck ran well, which it does. So he said to leave well enough alone until/or if I have a problem. The truck only has 99000 miles on it & looks to have newer injectors & new parts on the IP. It gets about 15 MPG. Is this wet stuff normal around the IP?

Wetness around the injection pump is never normal... Might just be the gasket that goes under the triangle cover - might run down to you local injection shop and pick up a new one so that while your there bumping up the fuel (you'll have the cover off) you can just slip a new one on.

Now for the power level difference - you'll be happy with the money you spent - trust me it was the best money hands down I spent at adding power to the IDI.

Don't know if there is a local IP shop around here. That still leaves me questioning the wet area at the front of the pump though. can any type of gasket be used (granted it doesn't fall apart) or something like Mr. Gasket. I guess the front could be wet from the fuel laying on the head spraying around as the motor vibrates. Wishful thinking mostlikely. I'm gonna go on with the install...unless someone suggests otherwise.

Congrats on re employment.

Well I think that gasket should be really the correct one - reason behind this is because it's holding back diesel fuel and diesel can attack some types of gasket material and you don't want to be using smurf poop because if a piece breaks off no matter how small now it's in your pump's internal workings and is behind all the filtering that has gone on in the system. This is the clean side of the pump. So I would shy away from making my own - doesn't mean it can't be done but I would shy away because of that fact.

I wouldn't stop my install one bit - heck no throw that air stuffer on top and enjoy worry about the gasket later... LOL

Sounds to me like it might be the weep hole leaking. If so, the shaft seal is toast.

I was thinking the same thing. When I did my 7.3l I put a new pump and injectors on it. I used a pump for a 93 IDI turbo and cranked it up some too. It runs like nothing you ever seen.

Well, I talked to Ken @ DPS a while back thinking I should update everything before I did the turbo, but he told me to leave it alone until I needed to do something. I thought that was a real honest answer considering the guy makes his living selling diesel stuff. Earned my respect in any case. Anyway, thats why I DIDN'T refresh everything, and now I guess I could have a problem. Would it run poorly if the shaft seal is toast Mel? It runs pretty good.
