Well everybody has been asking about injectors to go with the Moose pump. My rebuilder has researched this, and here is what we have come up with. The DPS injector design, we feel just isn't really satisfactory. The spray pattern has been sacrificed for higher flow, and this is not a good comprimise. It is however, an affordable comprimise. There in lies the rub. We have at our desposal, and individual who builds injectors for tractor pulling. He can, using one of those fancy EDM machines, make new tips that would basically have a pintle, and multiple holes in a circular pattern, which would flow extremely well, and have good atomization. The tips he would machine have to be new as there are issues with the EDM machine and used tips. Cutting to the chase, we are looking at $100 - $125 per injector. Who says IDI's can't be Powerstrokes! LOL

Unfortunately, I don't think I hear anybody laughing. I don't have to coin to go this route myself, right now, but will do it for anybody who wants to be the ginny pig. I can, in addition to the Moose Pump, supply stock injectors at market prices if anybody wants a one stop shop when they order a pump.

That's sounds great, but like you said, @ roughly $800 for a set, they need to work well. I really think hard numbers (ie dyno) would be great. However, I know you are a regular guy doing this as a service, you're not a diesel performance business. I like where this is going, but, it's going to take a step of faith on someone's part to see what is possible.

I'm telling you this. If these are as good as your IP, you have the potential to be THE IDI PERFORMACE GUY.......PERIOD! God bless him......no one will even bother with Ken anymore.;Sweet ;Really

LOL Yea, I'm like you. I had hoped to get an intercooler on the Moose Truck before the rally, but I can see that aint gonna happen. My intercooler went in the fuel tank of my other 3 vehicles. :puke:

What would be the turn around time on a set.....? If I sell the house in Toledo soon........I would like to "try" them. But I've been trying to sell that house since 5/07!:puke:

Not sure, since we haven't made any yet. I would expect not to be very long given the nature of the area.

I would be willing to offer help with 3-D models and prints if you are interested. you can do some cool stuff with a wire EDM, we use them regularly for tooling around here.

Mel, What injector will be used for this? Is any brand of injector useable for this modification? How many spray holes will be machined into the tips? Three, four or five. Multible small holes in the tips can really flow much more than one large hole. As an example look at the newer diesels. They have four small valves per cylinder that really flow the hot and cold gas in and out of the heads. Even the psd injectors have five holes in the tips from what I have been told. I read an article about stage 5 psd injectors that had square holes machined into the tips that flowed better and the atomization was increditable but at a very high injection pressure around 50,000 lbs. I'm interested in a set. Maybe two sets would be better. Spare parts out on the road are priceless. Maybe just a couple of spare injectors would be all thats needed or a set of stock injectors just incase something happened way out in BFE where I go sometimes. PSD injectors are costly we all know that. This estimate is not bad at all. I probably need a dyno run on my motor before I install a set so all of us have a base line for comparions.:D

Sounds absolutely outstanding...just going to have to build the engine to handle the pump and injectors....if what is said about the pump....can provide more fuel than needed...then as you have said injectors are a moot point, (UNLESS) a modified injector such as you describe does indeed provide a better sprray pattern then that would make a better burn and thus equate to way more power!

silly question but is there a way we can dis-assembly out injectors and mod them with a new nozzle system? might save some cash if it is possible...

Well these are all good questions. Before any answers can be known however, we have to walk the path. That takes a leap of faith on someones part. Who has an economic stimulus check they have no plans for?
