T19 is toast or transfer case

Well a few days ago I got my truck worked on and the mechanic messed with the rear end and tightend up the yolk cause it's been loose.later that day I was drivin it and it kinda slammed me forward and the back real fast like it skipped a tooth.i though ok it's the rear end cause it only did it at high rpm to start with.well we pulled it apart today and it's fine which were still buyin another for a spare but the rear end was fine.so I left the shop and they told me to make it do it so we could pin point it better so i mash on it an it did it only in 2nd.came back got got the guy that works for my dad that helps us work on my truck and we took it for a spin.this time I mashed on it an i did it in 2nd 3rd an 4th.never first.and I poped out of 4th.now it won't even stay in 3rd or 4th and it also does it in first. This could just be it wasn't really doin it in first cause it wasn't real bad yet idk.but could it be the transfer skippin teeth and goin into nuetral or am I rebuilding the trans.i can get a zf5 for a 460 but dad don't wanna mess with it cause we're gonna tie a lot of money into it so would the parts out of a 2wd t19 be the same or are the diffrent ratios?that may be stuiped to ask but I really don't know.thanks for any help Yall I really appreciate it

If the trans itself is popping out of gear, that's your problem.
Drain the fluid from both and inspect it.

I figured it was but we weren't sure.it makes a grinding sound when it does it.but the transfer case didn't seem to have metal or nothin that I could tell cause we went to shock it and it started pouring out so I guess it's the trans

Well it's gotta be the trans cause I lost 3rd and 4th basicly it don't wanna stay in gear.are 2wd t19s the same on the inside or not cause I have one I can fit and use the guts for mine

T-case is cheaper and easier to replace anyways. Which t-case you got, based on the year it's probably a NP208? Not the strongest thing out there, later ones are better. Fixed or slip yoke for the rear driveshaft shaft? I'd suggest you replace with a BW1356 case from a later model truck (still '91 or older tho, cause you need the speedometer sensor hole), if you have a slip-yoke now you can get the case (with driveshaft yoke to match it) out of any Ford truck, but if you have a fixed-yoke setup now your case will have to come from a Bronco. Pay attention to the shift linkage as well, they are not all the same...

Well it's an 86 I can put it in my sig cause I use my phone.and im not really sure.i wanna say fixed uoke but I'm not sure

Could be either NP or Borg in 86, but in 87 and up resistance is definitely futile!

NP 208 can be either fixed or slip yoke. Borg 1345 is always fixed yoke. Borg 1356 is slip yoke in trucks and fixed in Broncos. Borg 4407 ('96-'97 F350s) is always fixed, and bigger and stronger than anything before it, but it lacks speedometer cable provisions. If you broke a 1345 go for a 1356, we're building one for our truck that has a 1-ton PTO-capable front half with a fixed-yoke Bronco rear half

Well I can get one off a obs ford from my boss but idk if I can get a transfer anywere around here and personally don't wanna rob the one off my 83 so idk what to do.

Oh Ya and are these transfer cases weak or are they pretty strong and I happend to break one

The one from the OBS will not have a speedometer cable connection.

slip yoke = the yoke slips.
fixed yoke = a flange you bolt the driveshaft to that does not slip.

3 different styles of transfer selectors that ive ran across.
1 = in the trans access pan. 83-87
2 = in the floor pan right next to your right calf. 88-92?
3 = in the floor pan also, but a tid bit different.
