Stock clutch isn't gonna hold much back - I can walk over my SBC CON O if I jam on the go pedal hard enough at 1500 rpms and I only have a 10 fuel plate. Happens more so when I'm in fifth gear but I know as the clutch ages it will happen sooner and sooner - been down that road with it once before - Peter at SBC was nice enough to cover it under warrnaty and I wasn't the purchaser of the clutch the previous owner was - how's that for customer service.

So i can get away with a # 11 Plate for a while, until i can save up for a clutch? And what do you think is the best clutch to buy that i can just install and never worry about again?

Your stock clutch will last the same amount of
time no matter what plate you run. You pouring
on the coal too hard at too low an rpm is what's
going to wear it out prematurely. And where the plate
is sitting is also going to play a big part as well.
You may not even be able to walk through your clutch.
So it's hard to say how long it would last.
As for what brand to replace it with?
southbend clutches rock. Ask any Cummins owner. ;Sweet

Save up a bit more coin and get a con O
from southbend. You won't be unhappy with it.
Look in peoples sigs. We all run a Southbend.
Not just here. Log in on any Dodge site and you'll see.
Later as you can afford it you can upgrade to an OFE

I would guess a con O is about $450usd. :dunno
They should have a link to dealers wherever
you live and get a price. They're not the
cheapest clutches out there. If you go with
the one from Napa or something, let me know
how it works out for ya. I'm always interested
in saving money.

most shops charge at least $60 an hour for labor and you are probably looking at 5 to 8 hr labor but if you have a place to do it you could do it your shelf to save money besides its just nuts and bolts

I have a shop that is right down the road from me that charges $150 to install any clutch I bring to them for my truck. It's not some deal worked out or anything like that they don't do anything other than trannies.
