I need to replace the steering box in my 2wd f250, are the steering boxes the same in 4x4's? I would like to rob the one off my 4x4 for now bought a couple tractors last week so money is tight. Anyone know if they are the same in the f150's? I have an 86 f150 2wd I'm stripping down for parts and ideally that would be the best because I replaced the steering box within 5,000km of parking it.

Call up your local parts guy and have him check it against his books but I think Ford used the same box over a wide range of years and models. I just replaced mine [92] with a rebuild and recall the listing said it fit several years.

This is from an autowrecker guy...me..

Rangers Bronco II's F150 F250 F350 F450 up to 93 IIRC 2wd and 4wd all use same box...exactly the same box...different pitman arms...but all the same box...

Got an F350 4x and want a cheap box...go to wrecker get a 2wd ranger box buwa ha ha...I won't tell ya how many times this is done in wrecking industry!

Perfect I will snag the one out of my parts f150 this weekend when I pull the 5.0L for the wife's 87 F150. Thanks for the info!

Just to kick a dead horse, but exactly what they all said.

I grabbed a low mileage box from either a ranger or F150 2wd. Figured a box from a gasser 2wd definitely saw less wear than my diesel 1-ton.
