Something unplugged on IP

OK, new to me truck (runs great, really impressed with it) has one of the solonoids on the IP unplugged...it is the one closest to the air filter. I am thinking it is the cold start advance. Any reason for this to be unplugged?

Yes, that is your cold start advance solenoid. The sensor that runs that solenoid also runs your fast idle.
Plug it back in and see what happens, the cold start solenoid and fast idle solenoid should only be energized at engine temps below 130 degrees.

it is the cold start advance who knows why its unplugged plug it up wont hurt

probably just rattled off I couldnt get mine to stay on for a while. Just plug it in it wont hurt and will be good for when its cold out.

It is probably unplugged because the fast idle temp switch is closed. Mine went bad and never shut off at temp. Check for power when hot. Should be zero

thanks all. Will plug it back in prior to starting tommorrow AM. Will check for +12v after engine is hot as well. Cheers!

i hooked and unhooked both the soleniods on my '92 on cold starts and there was absolutely NO DIFFERENCE at all....

Jon, check for voltage at both plugs when the engine is cold, should be 12V. Also to actuate the high-idle solenoid you need to push down on the throttle to allow it to set in position, as the magnetic field inside it that moves the plunger ain't strong enough to push against all the return springs you got on the throttle arm. Oh yah,said plunger needs properly adjusted too

there was voltage the high idle arm comes out.

Plugged in the solonoid and what do you know, she stayed at high idle for about 5 min then dropped down. I guess it works! Thanks for all replies.
