There are hundreds of threads about rebuilding IDI's if you search for them. There is even an active in-progress thread of a guy rebuilding his IDI directly under your thread: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/7-3-idi-turbo-knock-engine-pull-and-rebuild.83578/

Also, there are plenty of websites dealing with the details of rebuilding IDI's. I'm partial to my website, but there are lots out there. http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/engine/7-3-idi-engine-rebuild-process/

Also, if you want to do it by the book, you can buy a CD of the 7.3 Diesel Supplement Ford Service Manual on Ebay for a reasonable price. It's a great resource.

The answer depends on what you are starting with. If you already have an IDIT block, you are golden. Anything else might have some special work needed, depending (that word again) on how much boost you expect to make and use. Low boost (under 10 lbs)would not need much of anything, the engines are pretty stout to begin with. If you are nervous, shave the piston tops .010, maybe have them coated to help deal with higher running temps. As stated above^, do research and decide what you need. We will still be here for more questions.
