Radiator Options

So my radiator has decided it's not much longer for this world and has sprung a leak. I will soon be looking for a suitable replacement.
Are there only 2 radiator sizes that came in front of the IDI's? And since I'll be looking for a new one, is there a particular size that works better than the other(s)?

To my knowledge yes, only two sizes - one is low and wide (37" IIRC), the other one is taller and narrower (31" or so). Measure up what you have now and buy that, cause of you go for the other style you'll need different brackets and such...

No brackets will change the wide for the small radiator. You will need a complete radiator support up front... Thats just way too much trouble.... Count how many fins per inch you have now. Make sure the replacement radiator has at least that many fins per inch too. Also don'y buy the dimple three row. They just wont keep these motors cool. Get a 4 row with 16 fins per inch. The 12 fins per inch will not cool as well either no matter how many rows it has...

I have a 3 row aluminum radiator that has 1.25" tubes........ Works great and the truck never comes off the " C " on the guage even when towing.

Diesel Max, where in "NORMAL" do you find a "C"?

The last IDI I owned would barely go past the C even on the hottest days, but more than likely it was the sensor not telling the truth. If I had a custom radiator I may have believed it.

Correct...................... Gauge reads from left to right, C --- Normal --- H Gauge runs between the C and normal. Glad I could provide some amusemnt for everyone.....

No........... But since you mentioned it and I have an IR gun I will check it tomorrow..............

That upper hose temp may surprise you too... Do the top and bottom hoses just so you know the differance in temps.

Where is the best place to get a 16fin per inch 4 core radiator? Aluminum or Oem style?
