Question for anyone who's installed a Lund sunvisor...

Hello!

For anyone who's installed a Lund (or any other brand) sunvisor, I'm just curious. Is it purely ornamental, or is there any functional benefit to having one? I've never spent any significant time in a truck with one, but I'm wondering if it might help shade the dash from the sun around mid-day and help mitigate the greenhouse effect inside the truck cab.

I don't particularly care for the look of them, but I'm on a mission to make my truck cab an icebox in July

I have several trucks that have the LUND visors, both the plain version and others lighted.

I prefer the look of a truck with a proper visor.

I believe they do cut down on some of the sun that beats directly on the dash.

Also, if your truck lacks cab-lights, a plain un-lighted LUND is a good platform to mount a proper set of cab-lights, without having to cut five holes in the cab roof; the wiring can be neatly tucked away and pass through one of the cab pillars.

They do help a little but I feel they're more for looks than anything. In my truck I have to look under the visor to see the traffic lights at some intersections, could be cause I'm a tall guy though...

I'll be installing a lighted one on my brown truck. I much prefer the integrated visor lights over the standard ones that mount on top of the cab.
About the shade affect. Yes, I believe it does shade the cab at certain times of the day. I know the one truck I have ridden in that had one I didn't have to use the interior sun visor to block out the sun glare and that in itself was pretty cool.

Yup, they do help cut the sun some.
Ornamental? Yes.
Windshield wiper catchers? Yup.

I prefer a truck that has them. Picked up one for the Moosestang and am gonna put it on. Should help with my daily battle with the sun on cloudless days. Moose Truck and Lady Moose have them too, and yes it is cooler inside when you have one.

Don't like them, putting holes in your cab is not a good idea IMO. I have to patch the holes in the cab on the one I am driving now.

My truck has had one on for what appears to be all of its days, No problems with the holes at all. It has been removed and installed more than once, (windshield changes) and when it had the makeover I took off the old one and switched to the lighted Lund.

I would assume they add a little cooling because it does shade a good part of the windshield in the heat of the day. I really have not driven a truck without one.

1 hole drilled in each A piller then 4 across the roof.
I've had em on 2 vehicles and not problems of leaking if installed correctly.

So what is the proper way to instal them? Anything involving drilling the holes in the body is iffy to me. I suppose worst case scenario I can just take it to a body shop or something and have them put it on.

It pretty much takes 2 people to to do it properly.
One to hold and the other to mark and drill.
I used and excessive amount of silicon sealant in the holes and around.

I can attest to having a foot of snow on the top of the truck and my son(50#) using the visor as a spring board onto the hood and it has faired well. No leaks!

I like mine for the reason that it can keep snow off of the top 3rd of the windshield. during an overnight snowfall, It makes it easier to brush it off in the morning.

Definately helps with the sun factor; both while sitting and driving. I think they look pretty cool too. I rarely ever reach up to turn down the visors.
