Oh
Has anyone installed a powermaster 9050 on their 7.3 IDI?

Basically, the issue I'm running into is the top bolt is very hard to install. I don't really understand why the starter was built this way, but there's no clearance to get a socket + ratchet on the bolt. I can't get a socket+extender without running into the starter motor. I've tried extenders and u-joints but can't seem to find the right way to attach a ratchet.

This probably sounds very dumb, but any pointers? Anyone who has done it before? All help is appreciated!!!!

Why? Power masters are expensive, have a very short warranty and as you can see have issues. You could have gone with stock parts store gear reduction starter for less then 1/2 the price and gotten a life time warranty.

I just did mine recently, for top bolt I used my Harbor Frieght long extension, deep socket, and the woble joint that came with it. Start the top bolt with your fingers, tighten top bolt first, then tighten bottom bolts.

Some of us have tried that. After my third or fourth warranty replacement starter I gave up and put a powermaster in. Zero regrets and made in USA too.
