Power service bio kleen?

I've been driving my truck for about a month now, but the privious owners didn't drive it much, and never let the tanks get below half full. After reading several posts on here and on some bio-diesel forums, I'm thinking that it would be a good idea to do some kind of shock treatment with a biocide. Lots of folks on here have recomended the white bottle Power Service as a winter additive. How does their Bio Kleen do?

Just keep an extra fuel filter on hand in case you knock some gunk loose in the tank. Power service is a good product, we use it in our gensets at work.

Unless your getting crud in the fuel filter I wouldnt worry about it. Its expencive too.

You can run a few tanks of biodiesel mix with regular #2 and have a couple fuel filter with You in case the fill the with residue from the cleaning.

Right now I'm pretty certain that at least one of the fuel pick ups is clogged, and maybe both of them. I'm running biodiesel in it right now, but from what I'm reading that won't help with any critters that are living in there. I'm not sure what the blend is on the biodiesel. The pump doesn't say. I'm wanting to eventually run off straight B100 anyway. In the mean time, I'm just trying to clean stuff up. It has been recommeded that I drop the tanks and clean it all off/out. I will probably do that, but my free time right now is zero, so I'm looking for a few things I can do that will help until I get a weekend to work on it. Wifes car will come first though. Needs exhaust, new shocks/struts, plugs and wires, and new rear wheel bearings. The truck may be waiting a while...

What going on for you to suspect the fuel pickup or pickups are clogged? They usually just break off the bottom of the senders and cause trouble, like cause you to run out of fuel at about 1/4 tank.

Okay, so maybe they broke of the bottom of the senders.... I hadn't heard anyone mention that yet, but you just described exactly what's happening.

Is it safe for me to assume that the tanks do infact need to come off now? If this is the problem, what parts will I likely need to purchase to do the repair?

I wouldn't bother trying to find "new" fuel pick ups. They will fail again in the near future. I put new senders on my truck and in three months, the fuel pick ups were off and floating uselessly in the bottom of the tanks. I replaced them with an equal length of quality (I used Goodyear) fuel hose. I held them on the senders with a hose clamp. I cut an inverted "V" or "fishmouth" at the bottom of fuel hose to prevent it from sucking on the bottom of the tank.

You have to drop the tanks or take the bed off to get the access you need. As you have to fish all the little pieces of the fuel pickups out of the tanks.

Yes, the fuel pickups do seem to fall to pieces but. The fix for the front tank is easy. No need to drop it cause you can reach the opening with ease. Just get under the truck at the front tank and look for the fuel line and return connections. Remove them, knock the retainer ring loose and lift out the sender assembly. Add some hose and its done. Watch the tank to cover fit. There is a locating pin that lines things up so it goes back together properly. The rear tanks is much harder to get to... Sorry..

Figures, I know that the rear tank has the problem. I haven't let the front tank get quite low enough to find out yet. One of the worse feelings of my life was about 10 miles down the road in Jacksonville FL when my "new" truck died on the side of the road and wouldn't restart. It was 8:30 on a Saturday night, and I was going home to Indiana so that I could go back to work on Monday morning. It took me a few minutes before I thought that the rear tank gauge might be off by 1/4 tank or so. Switched to the front tank (full), and finally got her started. Didn't let either tank get to 1/4 the rest of the way home. They didn't have the manuals for the truck, so when mine finally arrived from E-Bay, I check out the fuel section in the diesel supplement and figured that the screens in the fuel pick up were clogged and I was only using the bypass. It's all making more sense to me now.

Is it worth my time to try to add some kind of screen material to the extra fuel line when I put it in? About how much hose are we talking on each one?

Oh, one more question. Don't laugh too much, but what diameter of hose do I need to do this?

The Ex has one 44 gallon tank.......... Image one tank the size of the rear tank and spare tire combined....... That thing is huge...... At least it is plastic, so it may be alittle lighter. It is still big and awkward.....
