[MIDNIGHT RIDER]

I just thought I would show what my next two sets of tires are.

I got eight of "FIGURE A" in size 7.50-16LT for the drive-axle.

I got four of "FIGURE A" same size for the steer-axle in LR-E.

I haven't yet mounted any of them, as I intend to completely clean, strip, and paint the wheels inside-and-out prior to mounting.

I had a devil of a time getting them, so I went ahead and doubled up so I would be set for quite some time.

Plus, should I have a fatal catastrophe with a tire, I will not have to buy something I don't want and that doesn't match, just to keep things rolling.


I have never paid so much money for a radial tire; but I know these will be worth every cent as they are built right here in the USA by McCreary Tire and Rubber Company.

McCreary Tire and Rubber Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania has been around for years and marketed the best of the best bias tires back before radials were invented.

When radials took over --- cheaper and easier to mass-produce --- McCreary refused to back down and still built bias tires.

They are a huge company and have been producing all manner of agricultural, construction, industrial, and light and heavy truck tires under several brand-names that may be more familiar.

They also produce original bias tires for classic cars.


We have dealt with and have been selling McCreary tires since before I was in diapers and I can count the bad ones we have gotten on one hand.


Besides, they are one of the few companies left that are still American owned and American made.

Yeh i would put these on a farm truck, but not a street ride. Load rating is super low i feel, plus i have ran enough olf trucka dn swampers to not want bias on my 70+ mph street/tow rig.

Heres what came on my truck and what Ill be getting again when the time comes. Ive been getting outstanding wear out of these and the traction is bar none.

The best tire I ever ran onmy chevy C30 truck was Michlin with the XCH rating for the wear... They finally got air under the cap and started tobuldge the tread.Made for a bumpy ride. They had well over 5/8 tred left when I replaced them. That was a long wearing tire but the wet traction was not so good. The compound was a harder rubber than whats normally found on the everyday tire. So they rolled better and lasted longer...

I rememeber when those 2 basic designs were the ONLY tires you could get for these trucks..... does that make me old?

BIAS is what I want, PERIOD; I gave up on radials a long time ago.

The only time I use radials is when I get caught in a have-to situation, such as needing a tire and a radial is all I can get.

I currently have four BIAS Power Kings across the rear of my F-350 that are nearing 100,000-miles and they are barely half gone.

My truck steers better, handles better, rides better, and just generally drives better with BIAS than with lurch-around radials.

I have never had a BIAS to catastrophically fail; whereas, I can't begin to count the radials I have had to fly all apart, slinging big strips of tread, tearing off lights, fenders, and mirrors.

On my big goose-neck trailers, with radials, I never went anywhere without having at least two tire failures; I switched them over to BIAS and now we can go several trips without ever using the jack.


The secret is, like anything else, to buy GOOD quality and not some oriental junk.


By the way, I have my choice of anything available; it ain't like someone held a gun to my head.

Yeah; it makes you old; and, if you have paid any attention while you were getting old, it may also make you wise.

I remember Dad running a set on our 73 F-250 2wd, that had almost the same tread pattern. I think there were Goodweeks, at the time..... that was in 80-81 timeframe... That was a tough old bird.... we had a lot of weight in that truck with the BIAS ply tires, and all it did was make the entire tread touch..... we had 575+ gallons of water in a water tank in that truck several times.... never worried about a thing.... well except stopping, but that it why it was a short, slow trip.

We replaced it with an 83 F-150 4x4..... put 250 gallon in the same tank..... thought that poor truck was going to pop a kidney..... only did that once or twice, in an emergency (well dry). We both have tried to stay with a 3/4 ton at least from then on....
