That looks like a worm-drive Ramsey, they do not have the typical mounting "feet" that most planetary winches, instead they bolt up flat against the back side of whatever your fairlead is bolted to in the front. Thus they can spool top or bottom, just make sure the fairlead is offset up or down a bit to match that. Ours is a top-winder, makes it super-easy to make sure the cable goes on there nicely when spooling it back under no load after use.I cant see how that winch is mounted, and not familiar with brand, (so this might be a stupid question) but is it ok to pull off of the top of the drum like that?

Old IH Cub Cadet lawn tractors. Got an old 40's/50's IH refrigerator that I plan to transplant the emblem off my CC 1200 onto
These beasts are probably some of hardest working most under rated winches out there bar none.
Really they are top shelf units and I am pretty sure @LCAM-01XQ Would agree with me...8k in thezes is 12k in planetary easy
Underrated my foot - you're the only person I know of that's been able to find super-good deals on them darn things, every time I ever run into one it's always quite a few hundred even for a heavily-used unit.
And funny you should mention the 8k vs 12k rating, while I do think 8k is 8k regardless of what the winch is, AFAIK with the Ramseys the only difference between them is in the gearbox that drives the worm screw... Pierce is another brand that does that btw, and there was still another that can't think of right now.
Leave the poor Garden Tractor alone..... you can still purchase those emblems, and even the decals if you want them for something else.....

My 1450 is missing the IH in between the headlights.... I have one on a parts tractor to move over though......
Oh no, you were correct, I do like these winches a lot... but as far as I can tell from their prices online, so does everyone else too You called them underrated, I don't think they are - from what I see just about anyone who has one knows what they are worth, and is either holding onto them or pricing them accordingly.Oh and here I thought you were a fan of these behemoths.
Ok my bad

The planetaries are somewhat different tho, there is more going on there than just geartrain changes. Still I'd rather have a worm-drive... Btw Ramsey does have a 10k unit that is a fast worm, not slow like the RE series, never seen it in person so idk how they pulled that off tho.
