Should my '92 f350 manual trans have solid or rubber motor mounts? parts catalog lists both.
Also how much play should the old mounts have before caling them bad?

Thanks---------Robert

i would have to say it is all preference, rubber for a more comfortible ride and solid for longevity and strength

In my opinion if you are going to pull really hard a lot of the time, then solids would be better. But I think in theory they would be harder on the drive shaft, mabye. You will definately feel them.

Solid mounts would be an aftermarket design...

Mounts are made by vulcanizing rubber to two pieces of steel, with some sort of a safety bolt or flange to keep the mount from coming completely apart if the rubber bond should fail.

You can tell if they are bad if the rubber is soft from being soaked with oil, or if you jack gently under the motor and you see a gap inside the mounts. I believe it is the drivers' side mount that will normally fail first due to the direction that the motor torques to on acceleration (opposite crankshaft rotation).

Well, I guess the mounts are fine .
I tried to pry up on the block and it didn't even budge, although I was bending a 3' bar.
Don't think I'll have to worry about those for a while. ;Sweet

Thanks---------Robert
